I sit in the corner of my room, secluded from the rest of the house that is russling around with personal tasks and phone call maybe even a brief conversation is quickly exchanged between the moving people not long enough for any actual conversation for that would take precious time away from their tightly packed schedujals.
I never had this problem, I seldom left my room unless I truely had to for basic needs such as food, water, and bathroom needs. I have no friends or coworkers to make me rush to various events and get togethers. I have never even had a party for my birthday let alone been invited to a raging teenage horomone and booze driven party. The thought of me having a boyfriend is just as likely as finding a unicorn under my neatly made bed.
In school I do not talk to anyone unless a teacher trying to 'break me out of my shell' calls my name and says the usual "Cat please answer the question on the board" and I for the 13th time this month explain to him my name is Catalaya not cat and accept his apology knowing quite well that he will make the mistake again and do as he instructed. Then I sit back down and continue reading my book not needing to follow along with class because I already learned the material a year in advance. I occasionally brush my brown curly hair from my naturally tanned face and push up my glasses that seem to highlight my hazel blue eyes but hide my small detailed facial features typical in my spanish family. I sit very quietly not to disturb the other people around me hoping I dont become a victem of their hateful 'I am 17 and angry' attitudes that I have no experience to handle so I sit alone.
As I walk through the halway getting shoved by people walking quickly in the opposite direction I saw something on ground that looked like a green piece of paper and I hoped as any human being programmed to aquire weath would that it be a dollar as I stopped and knelt down to examine it and the bell signaling that I was late rang loudly echoing through the hallways and the kids emptied out and I was left to my dollar which turned into5 bucks. Score. Unfortunately, while enjoying my fortune a boy named Zeylyn running to class completely ran straight into me knocking me down and the wind I needed to breathe knocked out too.
"OH GOD ARE YOU OKAY? YOUR NOSE! IM SO SORRY!" He said in shock. I examine my nose to find it bleeding I hope its not broken.
"No apologies are in need, I believe Im okay."
Expecting him to walk away to continue to class he does something unexpected and lets out a roaring laugh.
I ask him what he finds so amusing.
"The way you talk its just so...proper"
I was bewildered how could good diction be a bad thing?
"Is that bad?"
"No I guess not haha, wait you are that girl who never talks.....cat is it? Why dont you talk ha you are so pretty except for that blood spewing from you nose"he wiped the blood from my nose as I blushed no one has ever really spoken to me let alone possibly called me pretty "you would be so popular If you spoke"
He laughed again "Ha I made you blush that us so cute!" I turned redder. I responded.
"You are late."
He smiled "I have lunch what about you missy"
"As do I"
He looked at me with a large grin that spread across his face he had braces which he pulled off with dimples and messy black hair gelled up to highlight his large brown eyes that seemed to peirce into me with much ease on his part. Interrupting my train of thought he started talking again in his smooth semi-deep voice.
"So Cat....wanna eat together?"
"Catalaya...." I corrected in a whisper tone hoping not to offend.
"Thats a beautiful name, but my question?" His eyes dead on me unblinking.
I stared no one has ever asked to spend time with me before.
"You dont have friends do you?"
His tone wasnt sarcastic more sypathetic. It made me embarrassed and I blushed yet again.
I looked down at my feet "No, never" I was ashamed of myself and I began to tear up, I knew it was completely irrational and out of character but I couldnt help it the pent up anger and self hatred I carry around began to spill over like a childs baking soda volcano.
"You do now." I looked up to see him smiling at me I felt less alone as he embraced me with a long warm hug. We stayed there for a whole minute or eternity.
We departed after lunch and he messaged me during all my classes giving me a smile lasting all afternoon
