HER:

Blinded by tears, she ran up yet another flight of stairs. Her thoughts were screaming louder and louder with ever step. Her heart beating faster and faster as if it knew it's time was almost up. There was no going back. After climbing twelve flights of stairs in what felt like seconds, yet years, she looked up and saw the door through her tears. She threw herself towards the door and after struggling, for a moment, with the handle, practically flew out it and onto the roof. Knees trembling, she ran towards the ledge, tripping on her way. She climbed to her feet and looked down at sidewalk and the park below.

However, she didn't see the park. She didn't see the mother sitting at the bench rocking her baby in it's shinny new stroller. Nor did she see the sun shining down onto the lake where a family was having a picnic. She couldn't see the flowers blooming bright purples and yellows contrasting the flowing green hills. She didn't see the beauty that was day. She didn't see the beauty that was life.

She saw darkness whether her eyes were open or not. The sun was blocked out by her tears. The sounds of joy were overrun by her unforgiving mind.

Do it. Jump. DIE. No one wants you. No one loves you. You are a disgrace. You're DISGUSTING!

WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE CRYING!?

JUMP!

JUMP!!!

Finally, she broke down and fell to her knees screaming and pounding her head. "WHY CAN'T I BE NORMAL!?" She screamed out across the sky.

Shakily, she climbed onto the ledge and stood up back to the park. She spread out her arms and a sort of calmness took over as her mind was quiet in anticipation. She heard a noise in the background...calling to her? No..it couldn't be...She leaned back and whispered a goodbye to her life.

HIM:

He sat along the ledge of the roof looking out at the park. The roof was his escape. He felt safe there. Safe enough to take off his jacket, revealing his arms full of old self-harm scars. His life hadn't changed since his last cut, but his perception of his life did. He handled things better than he used to. He hadn't harmed himself in ten months and twenty days. No matter how his day went, any day without cutting was a good day.

He was cloud gazing when she stumbled onto the roof.

He had never seen anyone look so utterly...broken. When she fell to the floor he slowly climbed down from his spot on the ledge and started walking towards her side of the roof.

"WHY CAN'T I BE NORMAL!?" She screamed before climbing onto the ledge. Realizing what was going to happen he broke into a run.

"NO!" He screamed. "STOP!"

She whispered something and started leaning back right as he got to her. He pulled her back onto the roof.

HER/HIM

She looked around dazed and confused for a moment before it hit her that she wasn't dead. Was she on the roof? Who was holding her? No...no she should have been dead. The torture should have been over. Why was the universe teasing her like this!? She should have died! Then it hit her...The suicide note. The bullies. Her uncaring family. Her lack of friends. Her scars. Her life. Everything came rushing to mind all at once.

"No!" She cried and ran for the ledge, but he held her back. She fought against him as hard as she could but he wouldn't let her go. He couldn't let her do this to herself. "Let me go! Let me go!"

She gave a good fight, but finally she couldn't do it any longer and they sank to the floor. He pulled her into his chest and held her as she sobbed. His heart broke when she screamed and by time she calmed down a bit and started hiccuping, he was crying himself.

"Why did you stop me?" She whispered against his chest. "Why did you take this away from me?"

"Because you deserve a second chance at life. You deserve to see the good side of it. You deserve better...than this."

SEVEN YEARS LATER:

"I can't do it!" She screamed.

"Hey. I'm right here with you. You can do this. Just one more push." He  encoraged her.

"C'mon, Hun. We just need one big-" her scream interupted the doctor as she gave out one final push. She squeezed his hand as hard as she could as her scream silenced and was replaced with another.

"It's a girl!" The doctor shouted.

"You hear that? Honey, it's a girl! SHE's a girl!" He ran to cut the cord as she laid in a blissful daze.

After the baby girl was cleaned up, she was placed in his arms. He stared down at her in shock. He was holding his baby girl. Slowly, he walked over to her side and carefully placed the baby girl in her arms.

"That's our baby...That's our little girl." He whispered.

She kissed her forehead as he wrapped his arms around them both. They were a family...

That night she lay in the hospital bed looking at the man she loved asleep on the most uncomfortable looking chair in the world. He saved her. He loved her when she thought nobody ever could. He gave her their beautiful baby girl. She looked over to the baby in the little crib beside her bed. She looked just like him.

She closed her eyes and started drifting, but before she fell asleep, she silently thanked God or the Universe or anyone who was listening, for that day when fate intervened.
