Chapter One

Endrea Summer woke up to birds chirping a soft and sweet melody. She smiled what a beautiful sound to wake up to. She sat up looking blindly around her room, when her eyes landed on something – no, someone! It was her wonderful, magnificent, extravagant best friend and boyfriend, Terrance Marcello. You may be wondering why she wasn’t panicking that her parents might find out about her boyfriend being in the same room as her –with her being not suitably dressed! Well the thing was her parents knew Terrance well. They trusted him and her to be ‘responsible’ kids. Endrea stared at the smirking Terrance, her smirking Terrance.

He was about 5’2 (yah I know, he’s quite tall for a 13 year old), had a hair colour of  golden brown, had a nice tan, a very fit body with lots muscles, a sweet and humorous personality and my favourite, a very charming smile. He was obviously popular because of his looks, but it wasn’t only because of that. He was an easy going person, a person that you could actually talk to without having to worry that he might tell someone, or that he might use this information against you. He was a total sweetheart. He had his moments when he gets really pissed and goes totally agro – but that rarely even happens. Terrance is also good at running. He is very athletic and is part of our school’s athletic team. Also there is a very cute and nerdy side of Terrance. He is a nerd when it comes to maths. I always and I mean always tease him about it. I’m not that much of a nerd but I am quite smart.

“ What’ya smirking ‘bout Rance?” I asked.

“Nothin’ you need to know Rea. Nothin’ you need to know” Terrance replied suspiciously.

“Yah right.” I muttered.

I got out of bed stretching my very sore muscles.

“So, what brings you here this very hour?” I asked him, glancing on the clock. It was 6.30 am.

“To be serious I have no idea. I’ve just been staring at my wall since 4.00 in the morning. I guess I was just excited to go back to school.” He replied watching a fly buzz around the room.

I rolled my eyes. “Seriously man, just tell me. You’re always here for a reason. Like remember 2 days ago when you came over just because you were hungry? You said your parents were starving you, but I knew better to believe that. You just missed dinner for some random reason” I said a matter of factly.

“Fine. I came here ‘cause I didn’t know where to go.” He mumbled.

I stared at him in shock. One of the smartest people I know didn’t know where to go on his 1st year in college! And I thought he was smart!!

“Hey, don’t judge a book by its cover”

“I just can’t believe it. The smartest guy, I mean one of the smartest guys I know doesn’t know where to go! I just can’t believe. After all you did boast last week that you memorized the school and could go to class with your eyes blindfolded. Yet, here you are. The lost one. The one who needs help from his girlfriend. The one who isn’t Terrance Marcello.”

He just glared at me. I laughed quietly. When I looked up again there was an evil glint in his eye. A glint that was too familiar. Way too familiar.

“Don’t. You. Dare. Terrance. Bane. Marcello.” I warned him, backing up.

“What if I do dare, Endrea King Summer? What would you do?” He asked, his tone teasing.

My heart was beating – it was beating fast. I knew what was going to happen next. I would lose this argument; Terrance would chase me to the living room (where my family is) and take out his secret weapon – a water bottle. I know, I know. Why would a girl be scared of a water bottle? Well did I tell you about how I hate freezing cold water? If you didn’t, now you know. That is my weakness, which is inside a water bottle that Terrance always seem to carry around. Terrance knew about my so-called weakness and uses it against me.

I continued staring at him, watching his every move, waiting for him to pull out the Water Bottle. It was so early in the morning! I could not believe that he would actually do this. Ok maybe I do, but still!!

I peeled my eyes away from his hand, searching frantically for a way out. Finally I saw it. It was like heaven when I saw it. I quickly peeled my gaze away and started gazing around again, just in case he noticed and blocked that wonderful exit. After finalising my plan I took my move.

I ran over to my right – where there was a gap - and quickly sidestepped back to my left. Thankfully Terrance took the bait so I ran outside my room, my legs taking me as fast as they can. I ran downstairs to the kitchen where my mom was, cooking breakfast.

“Hey darling what are you doing running around the house this early in the morning.”

I started to reply but she held her hand up.

“Wait, don’t tell me. Terrance is chasing you again?”

I nodded. I love my mom she understood me. She knew what I wanted and needed even though I didn’t. She was a 5’6, brown headed beauty. She had lovely soft hazel eyes that always looked at me and my family with lots of love.

I quickly glanced at what she was cooking. Pancakes, my absolute favourite.

“That looks real nice mom, but I’ll have to eat later. As you can probably see, Terrance is chasing me and I’ve gotta hide.” I told her.

She shook her head. “Kids these days. I swear, they have more energy than us adult when we were kids.”

I smiled and ran towards the garden. I looked back to see if Terrance was still following me. Thankfully he was nowhere in sight. I turned back to the right direction. Just in time to bump into a muscled chest.

‘Dang it’ I thought to myself.

I forced myself to look up and face the torturing cold water. It hit me. A very. Cold. Freezing. Liquid. After the last drop was poured onto me, I found myself shaking. It wasn’t only me who was shaking, the person next to me was also shaking.

“You know, you actually look quite hot wet.” Terrance said chuckling.

I kicked his foot, trying to make him stop the teasing, but it only made it worse.

“Come on you. Let’s get you inside. You’ll freeze to death outside here. At least when you’re inside there’s a heater.”

I let him lead me inside. I was really shivering now.

“Terrance!! What did you do to her?!? She’s blue!! Sooner or later she’ll turn into an ice princess! A real ice princess!” My mom screamed.

Terrance smiled sheepishly. It was quite cute. My mom led me to the heated fireplace where it was nice and warm. She went back to the kitchen muttering about how stupid Terrance is sometimes. She came back a minute later holding a mug of steaming hot chocolate and gave it to me. I took it freely, even though I didn’t like it much. I just wanted something warm in my stomach. After a couple of gulps I put it on the table and moved closer to the fireplace.

“Terrance you’re so immature at times. It’s cold outside and you chased her out there and poured cold water over her! And it’s the first day of college!” My mom complained.

That got me standing. I totally forgot that today was the first day of college. Thanks to the incident this morning I forgot all about it. Thanks to Mr Marcello who is by my right. I excused myself to get changed and to escape the lecture my mom was about to give Terrance.

After I took a shower and had a good clean wash, I went to my wardrobe and took out my uniform. It was a black and white checkered skirt - that I wore with a black pantyhose underneath - with a white polo. The sweater was a beautiful dark green and had the school logo at the right 2 in. below the neckline. I put some of my favourite lip gloss on and some earrings. I was ready. I grabbed my school bag and went downstairs, ready to start the first day of college. I met Terrance by my dad’s car and we went in. Once we were cruising down the road, I was panicking.

Was I ready to face the challenges of Wellington High?

Was I ready to make new friends?

Was I ready to survive the girls who will try to ruin me and Terrance’s relationship?

 Was I ready for this?
