Cress started to wonder what the point of living was.
After she had been rescued, and upon living for a few months on the Rampion with the others, she was most of the time the more cheerful, positive one.
But the edges of her bright vision were starting to blur in, and darken.
Now, she didn't know what the point of living was.
It was really quite a selfish reason, once anyone considered it.
Why live in a world where you had to save it, risking your life, to save other people that you didn't know, when you could simply cease to live? What was the point of suffering when you could feel nothing? In reality, living was the hardest part of existing. Living in itself was the hardest part of living. So what was the point? If there was a choice to stop it all, then why choose the harder route?
What were the shards of happiness in comparison to the atmosphere, the world of sadness that enveloped them all? Were those shards of happiness worth it?
Cress had started to wonder if there would be such thing as pain when you ceased to exist. Or was there a second world, a better one, the one in the imaginations, that existed behind the veil of death? Suddenly, Cress desperately wanted to know. But there was fear, that this was a living hell, and that it was only a glimpse at what would be found.
Only a glimpse through the veil. Only one glance to see what was behind the divider that separated them and what might be a white world.
Cress started to think she had gotten that glance, and she wondered whether she would have to wake up one day and tell the others.
But this world was so beautiful. This world was so bright, and there were only the good people.
Maybe if she searched enough she could find her parents.
Tell her dad about her regrets. Make a life that she had always dreamed of.
But then what would Captain say? What would her dear Carswell say? Would his injuries to protect her go to waste? Would he be hurt because of her again?
Her thoughts swirled out, and she was left in a veil of darkness.
Authors Note: My family is here, so I didn't have time to write as much as I wanted to, so I'll have another 300 word segment up as soon as possible.
