"Okay Emma here's your new foster home." Cassie my social worker said.
"How long will I be at this one?" I asked as I stared out the lightly tinted windows.
"I'm not sure Emma." Callie sighed.
"Well thanks anyway." I opened the door of the navy blue car.
"Do you want me to come with you?"
"No I got it Callie." I grabbed my duffel bag and backpack. I shut the car door behind me and sighed as I walked up the the red door of the small house and rang the door bell.
"You must be Emma." An older woman smiled down at me.
"Yes ma'am." I nodded.
"Well welcome dear come on in." I turned and waved at Callie then followed the woman in. "You have to meet my granddaughter Ruby. Ruby! You can call me Granny by the way." I nodded at the woman before I felt two small arms wrap around me.
"Hi I'm Ruby and I'm five. How old are you?" The little girl asked.
"Seven." I replied.
"Girls how about we go to the park?"
" Yay!" Ruby shouted. "Come on Emma." Ruby took my hand and led the way to the door.
At the park I sat on the swing as I watched Ruby run around with some other kids.
"Hi I'm Regina Mills. You must be Emma. I heard Granny was taking in a girl." I nodded.
Over the next few weeks Regina and I became best friends.
"Okay pick two names for girls and two for boys." Regina said as we laid in her bed picking baby names.
"Um Grace and Fayth for girls and Sebastian and Benjamin for boys." I replied. "What about you."
"Robbin and Rowan for girls and Henry and Roland for boys."
"Gina do you promise we will always be best friends?" I asked Regina as I sat up.
"I pinky promise Em's." We hooked our Pinky's together. "Here I got these for us." She pulled out two necklaces with a silver pendent hanging from them. They both had 'best friends' on the front. "This one is yours. It has an apple, because I love apples, on the back so you can remember me no matter where you are." She said as she hooked the necklace around my neck. I flipped the pendent over and ran my thumb over the apple engraved into the cool metal. "And this one is mine. It has a swan on the back because your last name is Swan." She handed the necklace to me to put on her.
"Friends forever." I smiled.
"Always." Regina whispered.
Three months later I hugged my Regina and Ruby bye.
"Best friends forever Em's." Regina cried as I hugged her once more.
"Always." I whispered before pulling away. "I'll miss you Gina. You too Rubes." I smiled and hugged the young girl. "Bye Granny and bye Mayor Mills." I looked at Gina on last time as a tear slipped from my blue-green eyes. Turning I got in the backseat of the navy blue car I came here in. I turned around in the seat and waved to Gina as she got small.
"I'm sorry Emma." Callie said sadly.
"I should have known I wouldn't stay long since I actually liked it here." I sighed as I turned back around then leaned against the window watching the trees blur by.
