"im never coming back." the words echoed in my ears again and again as I sat on the train, looking out the rain covered windows. I wiped my cheeks, I wasn't one to cry, I just didn't do it. I never thought this would happen, I was happy where I was, but I had to run away.

My dads an ass, I can't even explain how much I hate him, I think I used to love them...but somehow when I started growing up that all changed. After getting suspended from school twice, that was it, I was done, my parents were so mad, I didn't want any more confrontation.

I just said. "I'm leaving, I'm 16, you can't send the cops after me, I'm never coming back." I didn't think it through then, what I'd have to go through. All I had was a bank account with a bit of money in it and my backpack with all the stuff I'd need. My iPad, my notebook, my phone, some other stuff, and my birth certificate.

I was adopted when I was born in San Antonio Texas, because my birth parents were too young to handle me and my adoptive parents raised me in NY. When I left, I didn't intend to find my birth parents, but I didn't have any other choice now, with no where to go I had to find them.

So I went and looked for them, but I'd found out they'd died in a car accident a while back, I guess I'd never get to know them, or who they were. All I had now was an address. Apparently to a relative of mine, but I wasn't sure, I didn't know really.

It was an address in Nottingham, I'd scraped together all the money I had left and bought a plane ticket out to the UK, and was now on a train, heading to that address, to see if I had a place to stay, or if I'd...I didn't know what, I didn't have enough money to get home.

The train stopped and I got off. I googled the address, it was a twenty minute walk, so I started walking. It took forever, I got lost so many times and when I finally got there, I was exhausted. There was a car in the driveway, I was scared. I didn't know what to do, what to say.

I took a deep breath. "come on Ellen, what are ya? A pussy?" I said to myself, then walked to the door. I knocked and waited for a second before a woman came and answered the door. "hi." I said awkwardly. "hello." she replied. "I uh..." I started. "what is it?" she asked. "uhm, it's a long story." I replied.

"but...I think I'm related to you." I said and she raised her eyebrows. "why don't you come in for a cup of tea and you can explain." she said and I nodded as I went inside. She put the kettle on and soon came out with tea for us.

I sat down on the couch and she sat in the chair next to it. "so, what's this then?" she asked, I told her the whole story, from start to finish and pulled out the names of the people. She looked at it for a long time, then looked at me.

"yes sweety, you are related to me." she said with a small smile. "your father, he was my brother, I lost contact with him a long time ago when he moved to America, I didn't even know he'd had a child." she admitted as she looked at me, then it was silent. "well, I better go." I said, not wanting to intrude.

"but you just told me you have nowhere to go!" she exclaimed and I nodded. "I know.." I said. "you can stay here, you are family after all." she said. "ma'am, I don't know you, I can't impose on you like this." I said frantically, not wanting to become a burden.

"my names Maureen." she said. "well, Maureen, I can't put this on your shoulders, I shouldn't have come." I said as I started to leave and she grabbed my wrist. "nonsense, you're my brothers daughter, which makes you my niece, you have nowhere else to go, you will stay here." she said, then I hugged her.

"thank you." I whispered and she hugged me back. I pulled away and smiled at her. "as you saw on my birth certificate, I'm Ellen." I said and she smiled. "alright death, do you have any stuff?" she asked and I shook my head.

"just my backpack." I replied. "oh, are you hungry?" she asked. "actually, I'm pretty tired." I replied. "come on, you can use one of the extra rooms." she said as she walked me upstairs. "this was jays old room, he's my son." she said with a smile as she walked me into a room.

"he's living in London now, so you can use his room, my other sons Tom and sean are away at university, they're your cousins then, and my daughter Eleanor is actually your age, she's at school right now, but you'll meet her when she gets home." she said, I nodded and looked at the bed in hope.

"well I can see you're tired, so go sleep, holler if you need anything." she said with a smile as she started to leave. "thank you, so much for all of this." I said and she smiled. "no problem." she said as she left and closed the door. I other in relief, id never expected her to be so nice!

I collapsed into the bed and rolled under the covers. I snuggled up into them and side contentedly. I hadn't slept in a bed in nearly a week, I'd been sleeping on trains and planes and bus stations while I traveled. It was amazing to be back in a bed and I fell asleep faster than I think I even had in my life.
