{*Mayra's POV*}
I sat in the waiting room, trying to keep away the hysteria. I couldn’t help it, when people left the examiners room looking like a perfectly staged drama set. Some left crying dramatically, sniffling. Others left smiling, fangirling a bit at times and just plain over excited. Others still left looking comically straight faced. It was just such a high tension, and I was one amongst many.
I turned around to look at the other girls waiting to be tested, keeping my ears peeled to make sure I didn’t miss my turn. Most of them had worn the best, cutest outfit they possibly owned, and I felt incredibly out of place in my worn jeans, work boots, a can-be-considered-stylish-but-isn’t scarf and a random but nice top, with a hoodie over it all.
As a rule I never bit my nails when I was worrying, not that I knew how to, and I had long stopped chewing on my fingers instead, so I contented with fiddling with the tips of my hair instead, making an effort to look normal.
‘Mayra Foreman’
The loudspeaker suddenly blared out my name, making me cringe. I got up, noticing yet choosing to ignore the stares I was getting from all the others, as always happened. My name was in no way normal, and everyone always stared. I walked towards the doors, doing my best to collect my thoughts and keep calm as I walked through the doors. As soon as I entered, the first thing I noticed was the life sized poster of the boys lined up on one wall.
‘Mayra, right?’ a male voice called from behind me, and I jumped half a meter in the air, turning to face a reasonably young guy ‘I’m Rex Henderson. Nice to meet you.’
‘Nice to meet you too,’ I managed, still completely confused at what I was meant to do.
‘Well, then, let’s ask you the three simpler questions first. What’s your age, who’s your favourite out of the boys and what’s your favourite song sung by them?’ he asked me, smiling.
I looked up at him, a hint of the shyness leaving my eyes as I went back to being my slightly witty self.
‘So this is going to be an interview, eh? Great.’ I muttered to myself, before looking up.
‘I’m 14, turned 14 a couple of weeks ago, actually. My favourite is Liam Payne, but if I ever meet him, I’ll probably be the shy one who refuses to meet his gaze. My favourite song ties between ‘Save You Tonight’ and ‘Magic,’ although they’re all amazing!’ I replied, trying to sound cool and confident but the side that I was trying to suppress peeped out and I couldn’t help squealing at the end of my sentence.
‘You know, out of all the girls I’ve had to talk to, you’re the only one who actually didn’t start squealing or throwing a fit,’ he told me, wagging his eyebrows, edging me on.
I couldn’t help it. I looked up at him, something slightly dark but humorous glinting in my eyes and smiled, replying ‘It might still happen.’
He rolled his head back and laughed, and I smiled genuinely for the first time since I had entered that building. He caught me smiling and smiled back, before unleashing a volley of the randomest questions I had ever heard on earth.
‘What special ability would you like to have? If feathers tickle people, do they tickle birds? Do you sing in the shower? If you think no one is looking, what would you do? What is the last book you read? Describe yourself in three words.’
‘Whoa… OK… Special ability? I would love to be able to travel through time and space, which will be possible only in a couple of millennia on Earth, if Doctor Who is correct. A feather only tickles birds if they’re Kevin, and that particular tickler is Lou. It is confidential information whether or not I sing in the shower. But I do, occasionally. If I thought no one was looking I’d try running into a wall. Last book I read was one of the Inheritance Cycle, I forget which one. Three words that describe me? I hate doing this, but I think I’m shy, funny and awkward,’ I replied, talking quickly to avoid looking as if I was babbling, which I did anyway.
Rex looked up at me, a slight smile on his face. ‘Run into a wall?’ he asked, and I grinned.
‘Yeah. It looks so fun in Harry Potter!’ I exclaimed, finally letting my energy get the best of me.
Rex laughed again, before standing up. ‘Well, that’ll be all for today. Good to meet you, Mayra,’ he said to me, and lead me back to the door.
‘Just one last question: If you could have any of your realistic wishes come true, which one would you choose?’ he asked.
I stopped walking abruptly and looked up at him, deadly serious all of a sudden. ‘One realistic wish? I would like to get into this school, genie.’
‘Well guess what! You’re in!’ he cried before pushing me out the door.
I turned around, furious and ecstatic at the same time. Rex winked at me and shut the door. I smiled, and walked back the way I had gone. As I exited the building, I caught my family’s car and changed my direction that way. I opened the door of the car and got in, still wearing a pokerface.
‘So… How was it?’ my mum asked cautiously.
I whipped my head around to stare at her and smiled.
‘I’m in!’
Author's Note:

Umm... I believe the correct form of speech to end one of these is 'bye', therefore, well...
