Shattered

Chapter 1

THEN... 

"Remmi, dinner time!"

"Coming!!" I said. Today was our last day at the old farmhouse before moving. There has been reports on tv about some sort of infestation of crops recently and apparently our crops are some of them. The zombies have been blamed, but I've never seen any.

So far, the only city that is occupied by zombies is San Diego, where the outbreak began. It was a science experiment gone wrong. All of the scientists there were either bitten or killed and are no longer heard of.

People have been trying to stop the disease, but nothing works. Obviously, everyone moved to the Eastern side of the US. Currently, I live in Kansas City with my mom, dad, and sister, Kylie. She is 17. I'm 13 and am about to have a birthday.  

After I finished dinner, I went upstairs to my room to finish packing my things. As soon as I was finished, we got in the car and drove off to D.C.

3 DAYS LATER...

We obviously didn't make it all the way to D.C. The zombies advanced fast, and in a day, they covered half the US. Zombies kept blocking the street, we had to hide from them. They would murder thousands of people and animals every day, and we witnessed a lot of it.

They only caught sight of us once. That was the last time my parents were with us.

It all began when there was a huge crowd of zombies in the middle if the road, tearing up some animal like a horse or something. My dad got out his weapon, ready to kill any zombies that laid eyes on him. We needed to go, right then and there, but he had to save the horse. My mother ran out towards him, forcing him to turn back. The crowd of zombies had finished off the horse and focused their attention on my mother and father. They were in a trap. We all knew it. The zombies came running towards them, one by one. Kylie and I obviously got in the car, yelling for our parents. They had already passed. We knew it because of the size of the wounds they were getting from the zombies. The zombies scratched them up, bit by bit. My parents died that day, I will always remember.

That day our lives changed forever.
