Chapter 9:
A week has passed since I've arrived here, and everything seems to be going well. I spend majority of my time with Gemma, as much as I can that is, while she's cooking. Marie continues to torture me, but I try not to give her satisfaction by humming and singing as I do things, and chattering with my newly-made friends in the laundry room.
I've stopped eating in the main dining room, the second night I didn't appear there, William stormed in and demanded why I wasn't there already, but I ignore him and continued to chat with my friends. When he got no response whatsoever, he just stomped out of the room, with Marie padding behind him like a dog. Pathetic.
I head over to Tarin and Gemma, they were swapping recipes. They look up and smile when they see me coming. "Hey guys."
"Hayden, you're expected at the dining room tonight, William sent a note."
I groan and roll my eyes, and take the slip from Gemma. They both give me sympathetic smiles. I have a bad feeling about this, and I tell them so.
"Hayden, relax, you'll be fine. It's just a dinner! I have no idea why you are against eating in the dining room with them. They're just humans! They won't bite you!"
"Ha, you wish."
Right on dot at seven, I head to the dining room, where Marie is basically drooling over William, and I snort by accident. They all look up, and I had to turn it into a cough, but honestly, does nobody realize what Marie is doing?

Dinner is over, and I rise out of my seat, planning to head back into the kitchen. We have a sleepover planned at Tarin's... yes we're much too old for sleepovers, but it's still nice to talk into and through the night. I was heading for the kitchens when William grasps my wrist and yanks hard until his face is only a few inches away from mine. "Where do you think you're going?"
I lower my head, "To the kitchen?"
"No you're not tonight, you're staying with me." I snap my head up in horror as he forces his mouth on mine. I scream as loud as my lungs would allow me, and he immediately pulls away and slapped me. Hard. "Shut up. You're causing a racket." I put my hand on my cheek, it's throbbing with pain.
What am I going to do NOW?!

(Cameron's Point of View)
I hear a loud shriek in the corridor, and my first thought was Hayden. That's a first, I never connect shrieks with anyone unless I recognized it, but I shrug that thought off and head down to where the scream was as fast as I could.
When I arrive, I see Hayden on the side, tears running down her cheeks, one side of her hand clamped to her cheek. I see my dad boiling red with anger, and when I put one to one together, it's obvious what happened.
"Dad, you can't go around HITTING PEOPLE and FORCING them to do things they DON'T WANT TO."
"Do what?" He had the nerve to smile, his voice totally calm.
I don't even bother giving him a response. I grab Hayden's arm and drag her down to my room, where she'd be safe.
When we are in my room and the door is locked, I go over to where she's sat on my bed, and put my arm around her and stroke her back. She looks so helpless; it makes my heart ache to see her this way. "It'll be okay, don't cry." I whisper those words over and over again, until she stops crying from the horror of it all.
"Th-Thank you." Her voice shaky from crying, "I just didn't kn-know what to do."
"It'll be alright, he's gone now, I'm here." There's just something about her that makes me want to care for her, to make sure nothing happens to her. What's up with that?
There's a moment of silence, and I clear my throat awkwardly.
"Do you want to, um, stay here overnight? My dad won't come in, but only if you want to."
She gives me a grateful smile, "That'd be great, but I have to get going to Tarin's. We're having this sleepover thing between us, so I won't be able to stay, but thanks so much."
I nod, and I check to see my dad's gone. I whisper to her to hurry, and she does. I watch her leave gracefully, her hair swinging slightly as she walks.

"Hayden! Where have you been? We heard shrieks in the corridor, are you alright?" Tarin looks at me with concern. "What happened?" Then she takes in the redness around my eyes and my tear-stained cheeks.
"Come here sweetie," Gemma holds out her arms and she gives me a tight hug.
"I w-was so scared!" I sobbed into Gemma's shoulder, "there was nothing I could've done! I don't like it here. I just want to go home." Gemma rocked me and Tarin petted my back soothingly.
When my tears finally seemed to have been turned off for good, at least for the night, I filled them in on what happened.
"That creep!" Gemma looks horrified, while Tarin just looks angry, and Tarin is almost never angry. "How could he do that?"
"Well, he is my husband. I really couldn't do anything about it."
"Why don't you ask for a divorce?" Tarin's brother works as a lawyer abroad. "But it might take two years if the other party does not agree."
"Wait!" Gemma raises her hand, "but how did you get out of it?"
"Um- Cameron saved me." Gemma and Tarin exchanges a knowing look. "Guys! Stop it! It's not like that!"
"Whatever you say!" they sang.
"But just so you know, Cameron never cared about anyone like that before. There are plenty of ex Mrs. Taylors like you, and they're all arranged marriages, yet he never cared what his father did to them." Gemma nods in agreement.
I don't like this subject, and I decide to change it, but they're right about something. Why does Cameron care so much about me?

It's the next day, and thank goodness, William decides to leave town for a month. It seems like when William is out of town, everyone relaxes, and most of the workers don't do what they're meant to. I take advantage of this and go around the house, whistling happily. I feel like walking out into the sunshine, letting the day embrace me. I feel oddly cheerful for no reason at all.
I dance and prance down the sunlight-flooded hallway, but my routine got cut by no other than Cameron Taylor.
"Ow!" We both yell simultaneously. I closed my eyes and fall backwards and I hit the ground, and something, or rather, someone falls on top of me.
"Get off! You're heavy!" I yell my eyes still closed.
"Hayden, it's me." I felt the body lift off me, and I open my eyes. It's Cameron, his hands supporting his weight, his face inches from mine. I could practically count each of his eyelashes.
"Must we always meet like this?" I joke. He doesn't answer, and so I just looked into his deep green eyes. We stay in that position, until Cameron's hands seem to tire, and his head bobs closer to mine until his lips graze mine lightly. My eyes pop open, but his are closed.
This time, when his lips made contact with mine, it stayed. Then I feel his tongue poke at my lip, and I open it slightly, and met his with mine. We stay this way, I hear whispers and giggles, but I ignore them.
It's like the world has faded and it's only down to just me and him.
The way it should've been since always.
I just know it. I feel it in my heart.
