CALUM

"It was so sweet of Sandra to go out of her way just to make those pancakes for us," I say to Ailaina as we leave her driveway.

"You know she only makes those because they're your favourite right?"

I laugh. "Really?"

Ailaina runs her fingers through her hair, eyes not breaking contact with her phone. "Yeah, sometimes I think she likes you better than her own daughter."

"Maybe we could share moms," I joke.

She looks at me and laughs, "We're practically siblings already considering how close we are."

I realize what a bad idea that would be. "Actually, I don't know if that would be a good idea after all."

"What? Why n-" Ailaina cuts herself off by giggling at her phone.

"What's so funny?" I ask.

"Oh nothing," she says as she brings her phone closer to her face.

A minute or two later, she giggles again.

I lean over towards her trying to look at her phone.

"Calum!" she shouts and lightly pushes me. "Watch the road!"

"We're almost there!"

"That's not an excuse!"

We finally park in front of my house to see Luke already waiting. We head towards the door and Luke follows.

"Took you long enough," he scoffs.

"How long were you waiting outside?" I ask, fumbling with my keys to unlock my front door.

"Like 5 minutes."

"That wasn't even long," adds Ailaina.

"I could show you what is."

I groan, "Ew. God, Luke. Please just behave and stop being so damn disgusting."

I finally open the door and we set out stuff down on the coffee table in my living room.

"Would you rather me be like this or huffing smoke all about?" Luke retorts.

"Luke!" Ailaina slaps Luke's arm then sits at the end of the couch.

Luke murmurs, "Alright, sorry."

After hours of constant bickering and somewhat awkward silences and shared glances, Luke and I managed to complete all the type up. Luke always had an excuse to sit near or talk to Lains and it bothered me a lot for quite a few reasons. First one being the fact that her being there was distracting him. Another is that she didn't even bother to tell him to focus. I mean, every time he got near her, she encouraged it! What's up with that? What's up with them? The last thing I want is her to be falling for a guy like him. Ailaina deserves the world and more. The only thing I want is to see her happy. Whether with me or not, I want Ailaina to be with someone who could give her everything and never let her down. Sad is the last thing I ever want her to be and if she's with Luke, that's the only thing he'll make her. And I don't want that.

"Whoa..." whispers Ailaina.

I reach a red light and I look over to my right. "Everything okay? You're turning red."

"Yup! Yup, I'm okay," she giggles, one hand placed on her cheek.

"Who do you keep texting?" I lean over to look at her phone and my eyes widen.

"Calum, the light is green!" she exclaims, moving her phone farther away from me. "Don't worry, I just saw a cheeky photo on tumblr."

"Alright, if you say so." I turn the radio up louder to help fill the silence between us as I drop her off back home.

I can't believe she lied to my face.
