Chapter 1
The Dark Lord is dead.
My foot hits a chunk of brick left from Hogwarts' ruins. My parents and I cross the destroyed walkway to the surrounding forest land. The image of my Lord falling keeps flashing across my vision. The look on his face when Potter arose from purgatory to vanquish him was burned into my memory. I remember hearing the yells of defeat as I turned my back on the man that my family has followed for so long.
I can not shake the feeling of remorse and relief. There is no telling which one I sense more than the other.
Narcissa, my mother, seems to be a shell. Her eyes show complete and utter disbelief at the past events. Her brunet and platinum blonde hair looks duller. The warm tones of the brown have turned cold and the silver blonde has become gray. She has aged about twenty years in the past ten minutes.
Lucius, my father, does not look as phased. His expression shows no change, but his eyes tell a different story. They have lost their mischievous glint and now display fear and vacancy. The people who i have called my family are now gone and replaced with strangers.
We finally reach the other side of the thousand mile long bridge. My feet land on the plush grass at the entrance to an open forest. I can hear distant bird chirping with pleasure. It is quite odd how happy the surroundings are when such a dark incident has occurred.
"What now?" I ask with a quiet and somber voice.
"What do you mean 'what now'?" Narcissa questioned with a confused voice.
"Where are we going to go from here?" I restate my question, seeing that she couldn't process the simpler version at the moment.
"We go back to the manor and continue our lives like nothing ever happened," Lucius interrupts.
This response shocks me. How could we go back to our home and not get tracked down and killed for being His followers? "We can't go back to our home. Surely someone will tracks us there and murder us on the spot. We need a new shelter." My tone was serious and concerned.
After a short pause, Lucius answers for both of them. "I guess you're right Draco, we can't go back to our old lives now, we must move on," he agreed, which was strange to hear coming from the man who always has to be right.
We continue our slow paced walk in silence, with the past realization hanging over our heads. The gloomy cloud of fear around us grows larger as we go. Nothing will ever be that same as it was. Our lives are changed now and we must restart everything.
Like a phoenix, we must burn to be born again as new wizard beings.
