My feet still tried to make their way towards Scott despite the fact my mind was screaming he didn't want me anywhere near him. Only when someone grabbed hold of my arm did the spell break and I was forced to return to reality.

I followed, unseeing, as the deputy of the institution pulled me towards the direction of their office, muttering words about "police" and "suspension." When I heard the word "parents" as I finally sat down in the black leather chair across from his desk, did I snap out of my haze.

"Excuse me?" I whispered. All of my limbs felt useless and heavy. Everything was such a mess.

The deputy -- a balding man with a serious expression and round stomach -- leaned forward over his desk, interlinking his hands. Half-crescent glasses slipped down his nose as he peered at me through the lenses. We were shrouded in a thick silence.

"Your parents will have to be informed, Miss Cooper," he eventually informed me. His voice was like gravel; stern as well as solemn. "The acts you have committed are very serious and will need to be investigated by the police."

I nodded my shaky head. "Yes, Sir."
My head was spinning; at any moment I expected to wake up from the nightmare, feeling relieved that none of it was real.

He merely regarded me with an expression I couldn't decipher for a few moments before slowly picking up his phone. He was quiet for a beat before speaking into the receiver. "Ah yes. Could you please place me on the line to speak with Mr and Mrs Cooper? I have their daughter in my office." I assumed he was speaking to the secretary who was most likely on the other end. "Tell them it's urgent," he added.

Half an hour of waiting later, both of my parents were led into the office by a pretty young red-head. She looked to be only a few years older than me and seemed worn down despite her youth. I could more than relate to her.

My parent's postures were rigid as they each took a seat either side of me, not sparing me a glance as I  squirmed. Nothing like this had ever happened before, not even after the high school incident which had never been officially linked back to me.

With this... well, I had no idea what to expect.

"Mr and Mrs Cooper, I'm afraid your daughter has gotten herself into a very unfortunate position," the deputy began, "She has been involved in a fight with another student who is currently being transported to the hospital as we speak."

I gulped. Hospital? Then I remembered the oddly positioned limb and my heart rate accelerated. I sincerely hoped the broken limb was all she was being treated for otherwise I didn't know what I would do.

My mother sent me a death glare that had me recoiling and my father merely grunted. "Hospital, you say?" It came out as a purr. I could hear the tone of voice she had on -- the one where she would try to sniff out anything she could in order to deflect the damage. In this case that would be her trying to find out something the girl's family desperately needed, so she could pay them off and keep them quiet. It was what her favourite tactic.

The deputy nodded, looking uncomfortable.

My father asked the question I'd been dreading all along; I waited in silent anticipation for the answer. "Are the girl's family going to be pressing charges?" He seemed to collect himself before adding, "My sincerest condolences are given to them, of course."

I felt sick again.

The deputy leaned back in his seat, his hands still crossed as he said, "We are uncertain, Mr Cooper. The family are being informed of the incident as we speak by the head of the institution and by the relevant authorities."
