Flight of a Thousand Gold Feathers
Sauda's pov
I sat before the Alpha calm on the outside, but inside fear raged and threatened to pour out. I'd taken great pains to hide my scent but even the royealtro soap could not hide all of my scent from an Alpha."Well Mrs. Kiama all the papers look like their in order." He lifted his head from the paper, his light blue eyes held a spark of hope.
"Won't you reconsider joining the pack. Non-shifters are very much welcome." I gave him my best smile and shook my head."No but thank you."
"Well then I think we're all done here." We shook hands and I took my leave. For the first time in years I felt safe and that I could finally put my past behind. No one could ever know what I was but I was safe, for now.

"Bonjour class, today we have a new student ," Mrs. Contello announced. My father had mentioned we would be having a new arrival. A shifter who couldn't shift. He said that she was from Senegal, and that she'd refused to join the pack. I snorted internally at the thought. She'll be running to us to join the pack as soon as the rouges start bothering her. But I disliked the idea of a non-shifter joining the pack. We had non-shifters but they were all born into the pack and had designated jobs like doctor, or teacher, or lawyer for the pack. This non-shifter would be fairly useless for a while and I don't like the idea of having to carry around dead weight."Class, this is Ms. Sauda Kiama, she is from Senegal and just moved to America so please be kind and welcoming." Well I had to admit she was beautiful. Her dark hair was a curling mass that flowed like a mane down and around her back, but was held from her face by a gold head band that matched her gold sundress. It complimented her dark skin tone but what fascinated me the most were her eyes, they were pure molten gold and looked like they were burning.
"Hello." Her voice was accented slightly and quite soft. She walked over to the desk next me and sat down. I subtly sniffed trying to find her scent but found nothing. Most non-shifting shifters smelled faintly of their animal but mostly human, however she smelled of nothing but faint soap. She had to be hiding her scent, but why?
"Alors tout le monde, today we will be starting our around the world projects. You and your partner will research and create some sort of visual for a French speaking country and I will be picking your partners." The whole class groaned and the teacher began calling out names.
"Marcus and Lory, Taylor and Kenzie, Cameron and Sauda." My ears perked up at that. My wolf was practically vibrating with happiness and I couldn't understand why, but I was too excited to get to know her. I turned to her and gave her my most charming smile.
"Hey."
"Hey." She said quietly. She was looking down, her dark eyelashes framing her eyes.
"So what country do you think we should do? I can only think of France."
"We could do Senegal," she suggested,"it was once a French colony and is still a French speaking country." I wasn't aware Senegal was a French speaking country, but I'd never been happier about learning such a simple fact.
"Sweet. We should meet after school to plan. Your house or mine?" She tensed slightly.
"Your house," she answered.
"Alright, let's switch info. Do you want to come around 4:00?" She finally looked me in the eye and she smiled.
"Sounds great." We swapped phone numbers and addresses and talked a little until the bell rang. She smiled and waved to me before walking out making my wolf purr.Sauda's pov
I'd found him, I don't know how but I found him. In the past the possibility had occurred to me but it had been the last thing on my mind for a while now, especially after what happened two years ago. I found my mate, but I couldn't let him know. Thankfully he was a wolf and wolves hunt by sent meaning he wouldn't know who I was without being able to smell me. But I was still in danger now, and I needed to be careful.I walked into my 6th period class late. I knocked on the door and a student came up to answer the door. Cameron.
"Hey, your in this class too," he said smiling. He had a beautiful smile."Yeah, I guess." I spoke shyly.
"Well come on in." The teacher introduced me to the class and I sat down in a seat next to Cameron. He smiled at me when I sat down before going back to his work. I stared down at my paper trying to concentrate but the scent of my mate next to me was distracting. He smelled deliciously of leather, vanilla, and lavender. Through most of the class period I snuck glances at him. His nut brown bangs fell into his eyes and curled slightly. I could see slight stubble on his cheek. His skin was a natural tanned color and though I couldn't see them now I knew his eyes were ice blue. He shifted in his seat and I could watch his muscles move under his shirt. Needless to say I didn't get much work done . The bell rang and I packed up my stuff and on his way out he turned to me and said,
"So we're still on for tonight,"
"Yeah totally."
"Great, see you then," and I watched him walk away. I needed to learn to control my urges if I was going to make it through this.Cameron's pov
Most of the day passed by with little attention from me. My thoughts were on a certain golden eyed girl. Seeing her in sixth period was a pleasant surprise. When she'd sat down I wanted nothing more than to turn and talk to her, but it was "quiet work time" and the teacher was pretty anal about the "quiet" part. But I could feel her constantly looking at me and I heard her breath hitch when I shifted in my seat. I smirked internally knowing she was just as into me as I was to her. But it didn't make any sense, she wasn't my mate so why was I so desperate to get to know her. As a teenager obviously I'd dated and had many crushes but never had I met someone I was instantly attracted to.And now I was pacing back and forth in my living room. I'd sprayed on some extra cologne and redid my hair. I even tidied up around the house and my room a little. My dad was still at the pack house and my little brother Jackson was still at school so only my mom was here, and she was making me even more nervous with her teasing. 3:50, still have ten minutes. Inside my wolf was also pacing, I could feel the impatience rolling off of him. Five minutes later the doorbell rang and I practically ran to the door and swung it open. She stood looking slightly shocked at the speed I answered the door and I felt a lick of embarrassment creep up my soul.
"Hey," I greeted a little breathless.
"Hey to you too. Ready to get started?" She asked with the most adorable hopeful face.
"Totally." I let her in the house and she looked around appreciatevely.
"Your house is beautiful. It has such a welcoming and homey feel."
I felt the embarrassment float away when she complimented my home. "You should thank my mother for that, she picked out all the decor." I led her to the living room and sat side-by-side on the couch, our legs only inches apart.
"So, what do you think we should talk about in our project?"
"I was thinking about discussing Senegal's history as a French colony and its independence from France,"
"Sounds great." I said giving another one of my charming smiles and I knew if she'd been lighter she would be blushing. We sat for two hours talking and getting to know one another. I learned her favorite color was red, but she loved to wear gold. She grew up in a small village called Dagadhiou and was raised by an old couple with no children. When I asked her why she moved here she looked kind of fearful and began to shift nervously."Things got.....difficult and I needed to leave," she'd said. I didn't question her about it any further. The conversation shifted back to lighter topics, and I had her smile for most of the night. My wolf had been purring the whole night and I was on a kind of high, like nothing bad has ever happened and the world was perfect. We were in the middle of an argument about what was better, a Capella or rock music when she looked down at her phone and her eyes widened.
"Oh Dieux. Je suis désolé. Je dois aller. Je vais voir tu à demain?" She said in a rush packing her things and standing up before looking at me. She must have noticed the lost expression on my face and realized what happened.
"I was speaking French wasn't I? I'm sorry. But I must go," her accent was thicker now.
"Of course," I said walking her to the door. She stepped out of the door and turned to look at me.
"I enjoyed myself,"she stated shyly.
"I did too." I could feel my heart breaking a little at the thought of her leaving.
"See you tomorrow?" She offered.
"Sure did you want to come over again tomorrow?" I asked, hoping she would say yes.
"Sure."
"Great." She walked down the drive and to her blue car, but turned and gave me a brilliant smile and wave before getting in and driving. I felt my mom come up behind me and wrapped her arms around my shoulders."I think you've gotten yourself quite deep in love." I didn't responded but in the deepest part of my heart I could feel a resounding yes.
