AILAINA

Wrapped up in my blanket like a burrito, I see my phone light up on the nightstand next to me. I haven't left my room for almost two weeks besides the times I'd have to use the toilet. Additionally, I hadn't taken a shower. I'm never going out this break do there's literally no point.

I'm not quite sure what time of day it is. My blinds are shut, covering up my windows. Thin beams of light peak through underneath. Crushed, empty water bottles and soda cans scatter the floor of my room.

Mom would bring me food or snacks to eat and leave them outside my door since I kept it locked. Once in a while I'd get up to see what she had left for me, but recently I have lost all will to eat. All I want right now is to be with Luke.

If you ask me, this is the worst winter holiday break I have ever experienced throughout my entire life. Luke had been texting me constantly and it took me every ounce of power in my body to ignore every single message I have received.

My phone goes off two more times.

I practically roll myself over to my bedside nightstand and pick up my phone, the light blinding my eyes.

Cal: I'm sorry

Cal: I'm sorry I hurt you

Cal: but I was just doing what I thought was best for you

Me: I miss him so much, Calum

Me: it hurts

Cal: I never meant to hurt you

Me: I love him, Calum

Me: Do you know how that feels?

Cal: Of course I do

Cal: I feel it every time I think about you

Me: Calum

Cal: it's fine, I get it

Cal: your heart's set on Luke

Me: You're my best friend

Cal: and that's all I'll ever be to you

Me: I love him

Cal: and I took him away

Cal: I'm sorry

Cal: I never meant to hurt you

Cal: but I want what's best for you and he isn't it
