The war

I held my katana out in front of me as the blood of a man who's stomach I just sliced open, dripped down the edge. He fell to the ground gripping the wound, blood seeped through the spaces between his fingers and cascading down his hand and pooling on the ground around him. I put my blade away as the noise of celebration slowly filled my ears. I looked around and saw Lilly racing over to me and a wide grin spread across my face as she slammed into my arms. We twirled around in circles laughing like idiots until I set her back down and stared lovingly into her face and she into mine.

We both looked up and watched as night once again fell over our city, the moon rose into the sky once more causing the city to radiate with a beautiful silvery-blue glow. "Rose you did it! You and the army drove out the humans and returned the night once and for all!" Lilly praised me. I pulled off my helmet, allowing my crimson red hair to fall over my shoulders. Next thing I knew Lilly had gotten up on her tip-toes, wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me into a warm passionate kiss.

Yes we were both women and vampires, but we loved each other just as any man and woman could. I though of when we first met all those centuries ago, oh how we despised each other. Gradually we developed a fondness for each other and we became friends, then best friends, then sisters, and eventually eternal lovers of the night. Sure we had our fights, but who doesn't? Everything just felt  so right when I was with Lilly. She was my world, my universe, my everything.

But that's when I felt it, Lilly fell full body weight against me. I grabbed her waist and held her upright, she was looking down at something and I followed her gaze. I noticed she was holding her stomach, her hands and fingers drenched in red, blood. Her hands fell away revealing a large dark red almost black spot on her shirt, the silver tip of an arrow with a cross engraved on it, protruding from the center of her chest. "No...no...no no no!! It's going to okay, it'll be fine. Hang in there Lilly...SOME ONE HELP!! GET A MEDIC!! Come on my preciouses flower...don't quit on me...don't quit on me." As I switched between begging Lilly to stay with me and calling for a medic I gingerly broke off the shaft of the arrow that was sticking out from her back so I could lay her on the ground and apply pressure to the wound.

"I love you..." I heard Lilly whisper, I looked over at her unnaturally white face and she reached  up and cradled my cheek in a blood soaked hand, tears poured down my face as she whispered one last thing to me before the light completely left her eyes and her hand fell away. "Be strong...live on, and do-don't blame yourself..." I continued pressing on the wound begging Lilly to stay, and the medic finally ran over to us, but it was too late, she was gone.

"I'm sorry for your loss..." he got up and hurried off to waiting patients, a fresh wave of tears fell from my eyes. I lay my head on my Lilly's steadily cooling chest, "Don't leave me, god please don't leave me Lilly..."
