Austin Texas"Sam, You awake?" Abby walks over to the bed with a smile on her face "Sam, it's noon you need to wake up" I open my eyes, glaring at her. She chuckled as she flopped onto the bed and closes her eyes "Don't make me drag you out..."I roll my eyes and sit up, having my back crack multiple times "I don't wanna...." She grabs my arm and tries to drag me out of the bed to the best of her ability, hand slipping, she falls over onto the floor."Abby?! Are you okay?". Abby rolls around on the floor, half laughing, half moaning in pain. I get out of bed and walk over to her, with a smile on my face. "Yea i'm fine" she exclaimed " I'll just...lay here" I pick her up and toss her onto the bed "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me..." I put on a shirt and walk out of the bedroom only to be greeted by Nicole "Morning, or should I say afternoon" she chuckles as I roll my eyes and walk to the kitchen. "Sam are you okay? you look down today" I turn around in shock to face Gayla " Oh...yea i'm fine. Why you ask?" She shrugs and leans against the fridge "you just look sad...and I have something to tell you" I walk up to the fridge and get out a warm can of soda "And that would be?" I say tiredly. Gayla walks up to me and softly hugs me "We need to move, the city is becoming to dangerous and were running out of supplies" I chug my soda and set it on the counter "where do we go? all the major cities will be just like ours...there's the army base, but that's gonna be a military government, where do we go?" "I have an idea" Nicole said " we could go to our old town...or where Sam was born in the first place..." I look at Nicole with mixed emotions, trying to process what she just said "so you're saying we should either go to Missouri, or Canada...Why those places?" "yea..why" Gayla said timidly. Nicole walks into the kitchen and sits on the table, facing the both of us "In Columbia, we will have the college all to our selves, the entire football field, we could make a community or...or in Canada, there's wild game everywhere...moose, wolf, deer...plenty of forest and rivers for supplies..." Abby walks out shyly, her hands behind her back "or we could check out Indiana, plenty of farm land, flat so we can see anyone coming for miles around, not heavily populated" I shake my head and look around at everyone, thinking of the presented options "Okay, the Canada option...were far into the woods, no gas for cars or tools, more labor involved, harsh winters and mild summers, not good for crops. Mizzou is gonna be heavily populated with many bandits around that specific landmark, decent gas but no hunting in that part besides squirrel and maybe rabbit, and Indiana...i just don't see anything there for us...yes there is good view distance there, and crops, but it just...not good..." Nicole rolls her eyes "Then where do you suggest we go?" I take a deep breath and look at everyone, shaking my head "San Diego California..." everyone's mouths dropped "WHY THERE? OUT OF ANYWHERE?!" Abby yelled. "San Diego is right by the ocean, that means we have salt water fish that are typically bigger, it's gonna have a big population...but i think that would be the best place for us" "And you just assume yourself as the leader? No vote or anything?" Gayla said frustrated "My job IS to be a leader, that's what I did in the military, think of plans on the spot, tell people what to do in stressful times during battle. I doubt You would last long, Abby isn't aggressive enough, and even if she was, no one would take her seriously, Nicole just just down when she panics and there's me, sergeant General of the U.S. Army...I'm nice, loving, and responsible, but I can think in stressful situations and violent when needed..." Abby rolls her eyes at me not believing a word I said "you have such a big ego, you think of yourself all high and mighty" I look Abby in the eye with a serious look "I survived a mag and a half into my body, then fought an attacker that was trying to kill Gayla, then climbed up 21 flights of stairs with Gayla on my back" the room was silent, not a word spoken. Gayla walks up to me and wraps her arms around my waist and lays her head on my chest "that's for saving me" I sigh and hug her back, softly smiling. "Not that our little argument is over, I'll only be leader when things escalate, but like times like now, we're family" Abby looks at me from the corner of her eye "that's...so corny..." I look at her, squinting my eyes as if a bright light was shining in my face "shut up...I would suggest everyone start working on there jobs, the sooner our jobs are complete, the sooner we leave" Abby walks into the storage room with a duffle bag draped over her shoulder. She glances at the essence amount of military grade food rations and canned food on the black shelving of the racks. "Wow... This is impressive" she takes the duffle bag off of her shoulder and lays it on the floor, kneeling next to it. Calmly and softly, she fills the bag with cans in an orderly fashion. A thought runs by her head, dropping a can that was in her hand "does...Sam like me?" she thinks about that night up on the roof of the building, remembering what he has said that night "I do like someone, but I'm not gonna tell you who". This thought struck her with multiple emotions, happiness, confusion, and anxiety. She fills up the duffle bag the and heads out of the storage room, towards me. "Sam...? I have a question..." I Turn and look at her, pencil in mouth "yea? What is it?" she walks closer to me, as if she was intimidated by me, head down, hands behind back "Do...you like me...like romantically?" I look at her with a shocked expression, not knowing how to respond "It's ok if you don't, I was just asking..." I tilt my head to the side, more confused than before "why do you ask?" she shrugs her shoulders, looking at the map that is laid out in front of me "I was just remembering what you said to me on the roof a few days ago, that you liked someone out of our group...but wouldn't tell who, and I was just curious on who that was" I place my pencil onto the table and look into her eyes "Abby, I think you already know who I like, I mean it's kinda obvious..." Abby pulls out a chair and sits down at the table "Nicole?" I chuckle and shake me head "nope, close tho" she sighs "Gayla..." Shakes head again "nope" Abby sighs in frustration, biting her tongue "Danni..." I sit back in my chair, slightly smiling "wrong again" She tilts her head, lightly licking her lips and sigh "there's no one else but...me..." I wink at her with a smile on my face, taking a deep breath "now you know " I look down at the map and continues to look for a route to the stadium. Abby stunned in her chair, blushing uncontrollably "R-really?" she studders with shock, as if she just witnessed a robbery "dead serious, I guess I always kind of have, even during our period of not talking to each other for years, I still liked you, in a...romantic sense" her face lights up like a match in gasoline, she tries to hide the smile on her face as she stands up and walks back into the storage room. Her mind fills up with how she would of made Sam like her, maybe her clothes, or her attitude, personally or even looks, but she still didn't know how to react to what he told her. "Why not Gayla or Nikki?" she asks herself "why not Danni? Why me?" those thoughts flew around her head as she starts filling up another duffle bag. Can after can she fills the bad to the brim, she walks out into the kitchen and lays down both bags next to His feet. "Sam? Where do you want the bags? I look up from the map, and stare at the bags "set them by the door, Gayla can take them down when she gets up here" I look back down at the map and begins to finish the last 100 miles of the trip on paper. Abby grabs the bags, and walks to the door, sets the bags down and sits next to me at the table. "Ok, so from where we are now...we take this highway up north till we reach I-70, from that we go through Kansas then we reach Missouri, the college is in the middle of the state, so there's an extra hour to the drive, but when we get there, there's no time for celebration...we need to unpack and get to the main room in the stadium where the announcements are made..." Abby sighs, a look of confusion on her face as she trails the route with her finger "will there be stops? Like for bathroom and eating?" I turn my head to face her "bathroom breaks, yes...food breaks, no. You can eat in the truck" she nods and hugs me, wrapping her arms around my waist "Take a break...you need it" a soft smile escapes her lips, while holding me closer "when I get done with this, I was going to help Gayla with the radiator, then help nikki pack" she closes her eyes, shoulders dropping as the smile slowly diminishes "oh...ok, I'll be in the guest room if you need me..." she lets go of my waist and lets out a soft sigh, walking to the guest room.and softly closes the door. She lays on the bed, takes another sigh and closes her eyes, falling asleep. I look at my mamap wondering of it's good enough, I make a few marks on the map before stapling it into main beam of the apartment. I then walk down to the ground floor of the apartment complex and walk up to Gayla "need any help with that radiator?" Gayla jumps up in shock, hitting her head on a pipe from below the car "Not anymore, it just needed new pipes, that's all, but thanks for the throbbing pain in my head..." I look at her, trying not to laugh "I'm sorry...you usually don't scare easily..." she just rolls her eyes and goes back to working on one of the cars. I then walk back up the stairs, slightly tired, into Nicole's room, where she is on the floor packing up clothes "need help?" she too jumps and glares at me "I'm just packing clothes, not much to help with here" I just shrug my shoulders and close the door, my eyes glued to the guest room's door. I knock on the door, expecting an answer, I knock on the door again. No answer. I finally open the door to Abby sleep peacefully on the bed. I sigh softly as I walk up to the bed and examine the mattress
