Stars, he couldn't stop thinking about her.
The look on her face as she gazed up at him, with her big brown eyes, the way they were like pools of chocolate. At first it started off with her facing him whenever his eyes closed. She would stare up at him as he slept, when he blinked. As he squinched his eyes shut and plugged his ears to keep from hearing her outside.
She was everywhere. Now, she could hear her. Hear her laugh, hear her crying, hear her banging on the door. The worst thing was that he didn't know what was real and what was fake.
Everything was useless.
And.... And... Stars, he missed her so badly. He missed the way she felt in his arms, the way she laughed with him. Her voice, the one that wasn't screaming. Her warmth pressed up against him.
Her eyes staring up at his, the ones that she worried so much about, because she believed they were fake.
But fake eyes could never hold so much life. So much love.
He missed those feelings all at once, the warmth against him instead of the coldness that swallowed him now.
Kai missed Cinder.
And he missed her so bad. His heart ached, throbbing with every bang against the door.
His wishes didn't come true either.
At this point, all he wanted was to die, so that there was no more pain, so that Cinder could give up hope, and fall in love with a better man, one that would be able to protect her, and do so much more for her than he ever could.
A man that wasn't tied to a goddamned crown. A man who was free, and would be the wind that could make Cinder fly.
His heart throbbed again, and suddenly...
Stars. Stars. Stars.
The door between them crashed down.
