Day 2: The Final Long Drive
Lauren sat in the passenger seat nervously rubbing her fingers on the edge of the leather seat. She was incredibly nervous for the morning. They'd be in Florida, Miami to be exact. But Lauren was still unsure as to why and what crazy adventure Camila would be sending the girls on.
It was about nine at night and they had a full night of driving ahead of them. Nine hours to be exact. Ally drove, Lauren sat in the passenger seat, Dinah and Normani slept in the back seat.
"I know we made the rule that whoever is in the passenger seat needs to be awake at all hours the driver is but you're making me tired by just looking at you." Ally abruptly said to Lauren. Lauren raised an eyebrow. "You've barely slept."
"Neither have you." Lauren countered.
Ally kept her eyes on the road. "I've slept more than you. And you're the kind of person who needs sleep to not be grumpy."
"I'm not fucking grumpy." Lauren shot, soon realizing how angry she sounded. "I'm not grumpy." she rephrased in a sweeter and calmer voice.
Ally smiled softly at Lauren. "Can you at least close your eyes and try to sleep? I'm just worried about you."
"Why is everyone worried about me?! Camila left notes for all of us not just me." the green eyed girls tone was a bit harsher than she intended.
"It started with you finding the business card, the book, the song, everything. It ends with your note, and your hometown. There's a reason for all of this and-"
"Her hometown is the same as mine." Lauren fired back. She got mad and worked up about the littlest of things and everyone asking her if she was ok irritated her for some reason.
"Lauren." Dinah's voice called from the back seat.
"I thought you were asleep." Lauren replied, slightly confused.
"You need to see this." Dinah handed Lauren the copy of Paper Towns.
Lauren turned the flashlight on from her phone and took a glance at the book. The book was opened to one of the empty pages in the back of the book. Except, it wasn't empty. It was empty from printer ink that would continue the words of John Green but not empty from a ball point black inked pen. Messy, child like handwriting that could only be Camila's nearly unreadable handwriting. The page was full of random little things written, drawn, quoted even in all different directions around one paragraph of writing. It was all written for Lauren. Her name sat atop the page in all caps with three exclamation marks after it.
LAUREN!!!
I just needed to let you know something really quickly. I don't know when during this you'll read this but whenever it is, I want to give you a small clue about my whereabouts. You of all people will know what and where I'm talking about since you're also from Miami. That being said, none of the other girls will have a clue but it's not our fault they didn't grow up in the prettiest city in the whole world. (Not really but go with it). You know how I'm so madly in love with fairytales and the idea of Neverland being a real thing and how I would so go to Hogwarts if I could (maybe I did go there. Did you think about that???) But fairytales Lauren, think about that and not the obvious Florida fairytale place that is Disney World. Also, Disney World isn't in Miami but when people think Florida they just associate everything with Disney. I'm not that obvious. Anyway, I love you and I miss you Lern Jergi! If you find me, a big hug is waiting for you. Not like that'll motivate you but whatever. Maybe I'll see you, maybe I won't. The world is full of maybe's and possibly's lately.
With love, Camila
Around the paragraph were little doodles. Camila drew like a literal kindergarden student but she wasn't that kind of artist anyway. There was a small yellow flower drawn on the left side of the page. A banana on the bottom of the page next to her name. A music note on the right side and an oddly familiar pair of green eyes. A small arrow pointing to them, on the other end of the arrow as a small caption. 'those are your eyes from planet green eyes!'
