Miri's head felt too light to hold up and she crashed back onto a pillow. A wave of dizziness struck her as she tried to orientate herself. Wait, a pillow? Where am I?

She slowly moved her head to side when she heard a rustling movement, the fuzzy faces of Ella and another girl floating into her vision. She closed her eyes again and let the invading darkness take over, faintly hearing, "She was awake!"

Once more, the dream came back and the ring floated ever closer. Slowly. She wanted to know what it was; she craved it. Presently, someone was shaking her awake and darkness surrounding the ring was being broken apart by shards of light. No, wait!

And her eyes shot open.

She was breathing heavily and sweat-soaked strands of hair stuck to her clammy face. The person that was shaking her stopped and exclaimed, "Look, she's awake! I told you it would work."

Ella's voice was urgent, "You crazy kid! You could've caused more damage, Ali! Stop it!

Miri could make out the heart-shaped face of a familiar girl and her whole skinny body bending over her face. Strawberry-blonde curls were entering her field of sight.

She opened her mouth and spoke in a weak, cracked voice, "Why did you do that?"

'Ali' looked surprised as she recoiled, "Huh, what're you talking about? I woke you up!

Miri was slightly frustrated and forced her voice to come out louder, "I didn't wan-"

She interrupted her in a sulking voice, "You've been sleeping for way too long! I was worried, okay?" She was pouting like a child, with her arms crossed over her petite body.

The patient sighed, "What? I don't even know you."

From the bed next to them Kaiden stood up, "She's awake for real!" Miri smiled at him.

Alisha ignored him and uncrossed her arms, "I was still worried! I can care about people you know!"

Ella finally spoke, "Don't worry about her, she's too trusting and easily-attached for her age."

She nodded and pulled herself into a sitting position, her whole body aching. "It's all right! I'm Miri by the way, but you already knew that somehow." She gave her a small smile. She doesn't deserve my frustration; it's not her fault that I wanted to force unconsciousness.

She laughed, "You're kidding right? Or do you just not pay attention during math class? I'm Alisha Stone, Tristan's sister and this is Ryker Allen." She pointed to a grinning guy who was sitting on the neighbouring bed.

"Sup?" he waved.

"Nothing much, just nearly suffocated to death, that's all." she said grimly as she pushed her drying hair out of her face.

He smirked, "I like this one, let's keep her."

Ella socked his arm, "Stop playing! She's not a pet!" Ryker scoffed.

Miri snorted and then backtracked, "Okay, wait. Math class? I don't remember any math class or meeting you or –"

Ella came to sit next to her, "Hold on, you don't remember meeting Kaiden and getting angry because of Tristan and then going to Math?"

She shook her head, "No, I remember talking to Kaiden and Tristan pissing me off. And then... it's just fuzzy. But wait! I remember accidently touching Tristan and choking..." she trailed off and looked in the distance. What?
