This night is sparklin
Don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck
Blushing all the way home
Ill spend forever
Wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you

"Please welcome our new student, Miss Mina Hadley." Mrs. James said, pushing the girl forward slightly.
"Hi." The girl said with a nervous smile and a small wave. "I'm Mina, I'm here from California but I'm from New Jersey, I moved back here with my mom this summer."
She scanned the class with her eyes and landed on Ashton. He smiled and waved his pencil to her.
Mina sat down in the empty seat two in front of Ashton. Her hair was a dirty blonde with red highlights and blue lowlights. Ashton couldn't help but think of Michael, the boy in his math class who dyed his hair a different colour every other week it seemed.
"I expect you all to be nice to miss Hadley, and don't fill her up with bad vibes." Mrs. James chuckled, her brown eyes lookig directly to the troublemaker of the class, Cody. Mrs. James always had a sense of humour, being the youngest teacher in the school at 34. Ashton liked her, her class, and the work she gave out.
He was distracted by Mina for the rest of the class period, he couldn't keep his eyes off of her.
But he got his work done, albeit a little more slowly than usual, but it got done.
After the bell rang, Mrs. James held him after for a moment.
"Ashton I don't want you to fail this class because of the new student. Your work quality has already gone down, and its only the first day having her here. Your midterm is coming up very soon, I wouldn't want you to fail because of this girl."
He nodded. "I know, Mrs. James. I'm sorry, I was doing my best. I'll do better tomorrow." He promised.
"Good." She smiled. "Good luck with your math quiz, Mr. Irwin."
The pair chuckled and Ashton headed to his math class with Mr. Gates.
He sat in his usual place in the back row next to Michael. They never talked unless there was a class discussion in which they had to have partners. Occasionally, Ashton would drum his pencils on his desk and Michael would ask him to stop. Other than that, they kept to themselves.
They took their test and went on with the usual classwork. Mr. Gates didn't really give out homework, so the class period was always full of talking and problems.
After the bell for lunch, Ashton headed straight for the cafeteria instead of his locker like he usually did. He ran into Mina, the new girl.
Literally.
As he turned the corner into the cafeteria, she was on her way out and ran right into him with an open waterbottle in hand. The water went all over both of them.
The students around them in the hallway walked away without taking a second look.
Ashton laughed, running to grab some napkins to clean himself up. Mina followed, giggling to herself as well.
They got cleaned up enough to buy some lunch. Ashton got his usual turkey sandwich with a water.
Mina didn't feel hungry, but she joined Ashton at a table anyway.
Ashton offered her some cash to buy lunch but she politely declined.
"I'm not hungry, really." She smiled. "But thank you."
Ashton nodded, smiling at her, too. "No problem."
They sat together for lunch period, Ashton helped her find her next class.
"It was nice to meet you, Ashton." She said at the door, giving Ashton a handshake. She clearly didn't remember any of the childhood memories they shared. It had been years since they saw each other, but as soon as Ashton heard her name, he knew. It was her, his first love. Their mothers had been friends. She moved in fifth grade with her dad for his job. They kept in touch for a while, but then they both became too busy to send letters. He missed her, he thought about her every day. He couldn't believe she had forgotten.
"You, too, Mina. Call me Ash." He said, a sad air to his voice.
She nodded and walked into her class.
Ashton found his, too, and thought about those brown eyes of hers until the end of the day when he went home.
