Gloria managed to make her way to the old shed after a while. She wasn’t sure how to explain this to the kids… It was just impossible.
She opened the door to the shed and stopped, glancing around. It was so much smaller than she remembered. The kids had all found enough room to sit or stand, depending on what they wanted. She smiled slightly at them.
Nath looked at her for a moment before a look of realization hit him. “Gloria… Where’s Scar?” he asked. His voice was sharp and quiet. It held more accusation than he ever used towards her.
The room went silent.
Gloria looked at the three of them for a long moment. “He… He was taken away. By the police,” she said quietly. She glanced at each of them. “He said he would be back as soon as he can be. I’m sure it will be all right.”
Dez stood up and walked over to Gloria, looking up at her. “Really?” she said, worried. Her six year old mind could only comprehend so much… “Why did the police take him away?” Her voice was sad and tears were threatening to spill down her face. She just couldn’t understand why the police would take Scar away.
Gloria frowned and picked the little girl up. “I don’t know Dez. I think it’s because we weren’t suppose to be living there. Scar is going to tell them that we weren’t and then he will come back. Ok?” she asked, wiping a few of the tears that had escaped away. When Dez nodded, she smiled. “Good. Now I need to put you down. My back hurts.”
Dez climbed down quickly, not wanting to hurt Gloria and went and sat back down.
Gray and Nath looked at her for a moment. They believed everything that she had said but it was difficult to except that Scar wasn’t going to be coming back for a while.
Gray finally broke the silence after a few minutes. “Gloria… Do you know why Scar chose this place for us to stay? He said it’s a place where you two used to stay… But why would he not remember it being so small?” he asked. A story seemed like a good way to let them all calm down before they went to sleep.
Gloria sat down carefully, trying not to hurt her back as she relaxed. She smiled at Gray. “I guess you guys have never been here… I forgot,” she murmured. She remembered staying her like they had when they were little. “It’s where we stayed the first night we met. How about I tell you about it?”
When they all nodded, she smiled slightly. Gray had known this was what they needed for tonight. “It was a long time ago. I was five and he was seven. It was a very cold and stormy night…” She began the story and continued it until they were all asleep. The red head stood and covered them all with blankets before lying down also.
She needed any sleep she could get because until Scar came back, she was in charge and more alone than she had ever been.
(I know this chapter was short but I couldn't see any way to make it long and leave off where I did. I hope you like it either way. I uploaded quickly this time! Twice in one day. :) More will be coming soon. Please comment/vote/fan. ~Cajun)
