Just a small girl standing empty handed against a giant beast

Her clothes are ripped and tattered;  her eyes are filled with grief

The breath of her biggest enemy brushes rough against her cheek

Terrifed she stands her ground

Her beloved's cries the only sound

As she shakes from her fear and the tears that hit the ground

Tonight she has to face the one thing that terrifies her.

The darkness slowly creeps around her small and silhoutted frame

Until she's out of sight and ready to begin this twisted game

The fact that she's even standing here brings her to shame

She closes her eyes for only a second and the pain begins to rage

Her heart feels as if it's being ripped straight from its cage

The red-tinged tears get worse and worse on this dark-lit stage

Tonight she's searching for an impossible cure.

His screams begin to fade away although she tries to hang on

Holding him to his word has never felt so wrong

But  letting him go isn't an option; she's definitely not that strong

She takes a breath and pulls him close

She's fighting against all odds, she knows

But the only thing that matters is that he's diagnosed

Tonight she wants her love secured.

The darkness starts to fade to light

Through stage one she's made it through alright

But the game's simply not finished by morning light.

Tonight, she has to resume the fight.
