*15 years later*
Daniel Howell, a boy of 22, living in his small London apartment by himself. His hair got shorter, his skin got paler, and his legs grew taller.
He trudged through the snow, kicking empty soda cans and slipping on icy patches. Passing people on his way to his apartment, he suddenly stopped in front of the bookstore. On the glass doors there was a sign that said "Now Hiring" so he pushed open the doors and walked to the vacant front desk.
"Hello?" He rang the bell a few times, maybe they forgot to close down when they left, he started to leave.
"Hold on!" He turned back around and saw a mop of brown hair pop up from under the desk, the young girl looked over at Dan, "What can I help you with hun?"
"Oh.. I was just inquiring about getting a job here, are you still hiring?"
"Yes, that'd be great! Here," she tore of some paper from a notepad, "this is my email, send me your résumé and I'll see if you're a good fit."
"Wait, do you own this place?"
"No, technically my inherited it when my uncle passed, but I'm the only one who actually works here."
"Sorry to here that," Dan looked around at the floor uncomfortably.
"It's all okay, I just need some help managing everything. That's why I'm hiring!"
"Alright, I'll get you my résumé tonight. And my name's Dan by the way."
"Nice to meet you Dan, I'm Hannah! Hopefully I'll be seeing you around some more," with that she gave a quick wink, which led Dan into stumbling back a bit and giving a small wave goodbye.
Uggh that was weird, he thought. He was never comfortable with people showing any kind of affection or familiarity towards him. He decided to shake it off and continued on his path to his house. It started snowing lightly, which turned the grey world into a white one. The grass got a fresh coat of ice, while street lamps illuminated circles of snow with orange fading light. Snow bit his nose as it landed and melted on his skin, he hurried and turned the corner that his apartment was on. Since he only had a jacket on, he was freezing and could barely unlock the door to his flat. When he finally got in he stripped his sopping clothes off and threw them into the dryer. He redressed in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, then he boiled some water to make ramen.
Slurping the noodles he brought out his laptop, and while he desperately wanted to just watch some anime, he instead updated his résumé which wasn't that impressive, but it would have to do. He typed in Hannah's email and placed a copy of his résumé in it, pressing send he hoped that it wouldn't require a lot of skill to work at a bookstore.
For the rest of the night he scrolled through the internet until he felt he couldn't physically hold open his eyelids.
