Mohammad's limp body fell on top of Jenner and those dead eyes slipped out of focus. Jenner could smell the blood gushing from the bullet wound in the man's head as Matilda's scream continued and the booming voice of an angry sounding man filled Jenner's ears. The noise was so much that Jenner couldn't quite figure out what was happening, the shadows which had leaked from Mohammad's dead body filled the room and nearly everything else was hidden from view.
As the blackness stole Jenner's sight, angry whispers pulled the voices around him from his ears. All he could hear were the angry hushed voices which he'd become increasingly more familiar with over the weeks.
The whispers began to fade and Jenner noticed the shadows funnelling away, his eyes focused in time to see Matilda at the centre of the dark whirlpool. Her knees were buckling as she screamed and the shadows filtered in through her eyes and nose. She fell to the floor and sergeant Williams knelt down beside her.
"Ma'am, are you okay?"
Matilda pulled her hair and shook her head. Jenner could feel the vampire's frustration as she looked at him, then back at Williams. "I...I am fine...I just...please, help Mr. Costas."
Williams turned away from Matilda and Jenner saw her wicked smile. He tried to shout through the gag as her fingers wiggled in his direction from behind the police officer's back. Jenner started bouncing in his chair as Matilda slipped away, unseen by Williams who struggled to untie Jenner's hands.
"Mr. Costas, are you okay?" Williams holstered his hand gun and looked at Jenner's naked and bleeding chest. "When you didn't show up at the station I decided to come check on you, good thing too."
As Jenner rocked the chair back and forth he grumbled into the ball in his mouth and Williams finally got the message. "Are you okay Mr. Costas?" he asked as he slipped the gag off.
"She's getting away!"
"I'm sorry? Who's getting away?"
"Matilda!"
"You mean your roommate? But...but she's not the one who had you tied up, this man was the one --"
"They're working together!" Jenner cut Williams off. "They have Duchess and you just let her get away!"
Williams turned around and noticed Matilda was gone. He raised his gun again and barrelled down the stairs as Jenner slipped the loosened ropes off of his wrists.
"Helena?" He said as he knelt by the red headed woman's side. She grunted and rolled over as Jenner cradled her head.
"Damn, wasn't expecting that bitch to be such a fighter." She coughed and shook her head.
"Helena, look, I'm sorry I didn't believe you."
"Naw, don't worry about it bro, nobody believes me at first. And don't call me that, my name is Lena."
"You've been following Mo right? Do you know where he took Duchess?"
"Who's that?"
"My roommate, tall, beautiful, mouthy black girl?"
"Oh yeah, I saw him pick up that hotty like... A week ago."
"A week!?" Jenner felt his stomach sinking. "But...but she's been texting me."
"It was probably that vamp." Helena pointed over to Mohammad's dead body, which still stared slack jawed at Jenner.
"Do you know where he took her?" Jenner asked as Williams came up the stairs again, calling into his radio for back up.
"Yeah, his sketchy cabin." Lena struggled to sit up, grabbing her throbbing head with her right hand.
"Take us there!"
