Arie's POV
"Mom, I'm going to school!" I called as I opened the front door.
"Have a good day at school." The monotone computer generated voice called. I hadn't seen my parents since I got a job. They pay for the bills online and will send a maid to bring me food, but that's it. I have the two story house all to myself.
Don't leave! You won't come back! I heard. I looked down at our dog as he dropped his ears.
"Don't worry Zeus! I'll be back shortly after three." I said to him as I gave him a pat on the head.
I'll be watching the clock. I gave him a smile before running toward school. I ran inside the school doors before slowing down so I didn't spill my coffee going up the stairs. As I opened the door to the class room I felt slight pressure on my shin and barely managed to place my coffee mug on the lab table before falling to the ground.
"Oh I'm sorry Airy, I didn't see you there." One of the biggest skanks I've ever known said. We've known each other since we were practically in diapers and we've hated each other for just as long.
"Sure you did, just like I'm sorry for this." I said as I caught her with a right hook to the gut, not enough force to cause damage, but enough to knock the wind out of her.
"Why you bi..."
"Silvia, stop, I won't deal with your foul language today!" Dr. K said as she opened the classroom door. She does not take well to swearing. Luckily she didn't see me hit her, or I'd be in the same boat.
The rest of the day went by pretty quickly, but the closer the clock came to two, the more antsy I got. During the day I could block out their voices, but as my classes got closer to their closing, the louder they became, making them near impossible to ignore. Just as the bell rang for school let out, I jumped from my chair as all the voices came flooding into my brain.
Help me.
I'm hungry, will you feed me.
Stupid dog, thinking that barking will get me to move.
Dumb cat won't get out of my spot!
Ball! Ball! Ball!
Let me out of this cage! I want to spread my wings.
Faster faster faster! Why can't I go any faster.
Will the humans allow the food to rain down from the heavens again?
Oh boy! A new toy!
Now I'm too warm, back to my cool cave.
Arie! Come back!
I don't know how I managed, but this has been happening every day since I was old enough to understand what people were telling me.
I'm Arie Ledgeston, and I can understand animals.
