I can't help but think of her, somewhere in the stars. Looking down on me waiting in patience.
But then I remember who I am and what I'm doing.
It was beginning of summer dance. Almost 4 weeks after summer began. I was almost an official senior in high school. Most of the music we listened to was from "back in the day" as my dad says it. I say it as "back when the beach boys were a success". This was Kilmont, Tennessee. It was as country as it could get. I was suprised Nashville wasn't. They probably are, it's just no body leaves Kilmont. We had mountains and even a destination sign. That was knocked down five years ago. We were almost 10 miles away from civilization, and about a mile down the road from Stuart, Missouri. All I ever wanted to do was leave Kilmont. Country folk were starting to get old. I wanted to go somewhere like the city, New York City. Where people were made and where everyone who was everyone lived.
Most of the people who lived in Kilmont were christan and only believed in one thing. Kilmont is the safest place to live. Yeah I thought that until I saw my dad try to pick up mom. (Epic fail) That's when I realized some people were to stupid to leave Kilmont for this reason. That's why I was gonna be the first.
My mind suddenly gave back into the party as all of my dreams flew out of my head. Sara Yegger tugged on my arm to dance with her. Another thing some of the girls in this town had looked ugly their whole life, but I had the decency to keep my mouth shut.
"Charlie, come on!" Her southern accent annoyed me to death. Especially cause she was only 11 years old.
"Sara you know I don't dance." I cried over the music.
"Well your dancin' tonight!!!" She yelled. She started to swing her head back n' forth as if she was one of those Whip my Hair girls. I walked away.
A jock, Charles Newman came hitting me in the back. "Is that you Baker?" He asked.
"No your mom, who do you think."
Charles picked me up and dragged me across the room.
"Baker you think your kinda funny don't ya."
"I know I'm funny."
He me against the wall harder.
"What are you gonna do?" I asked.
Suddenly fireworks shot into the air.
"Congratulations, 173 summers. And on this special night a meteor shower." Said the DJ. The stars came down and crashed into the mountains. As I looked closely it seemed like something was on fire flaming toward the mountain. But it was gone before anyone saw it. I wondered what it was.
"You got lucky this time Baker." Charles cried. Trust me I had already been lucky. I wasn't stuck with a name one of the hobo's in our town had.
My mind wondered back to think that just feel out the sky. I wasn't going to be chicken little and go telling everyone the sky is falling. I bet it was nothing just a piece of a meteor. The dance continued, with songs from this age. It didn't matter anyways I was leaving.
