Prologue.

Paxton stood there staring at his feet, his soft light blond hair falling in his jade eyes. He looked up, and looked me in the eye, “Talia I’m a ghost.”

I gave him a blank look. Did he really think that I would believe such a blatant lie? “There is no such thing as ghosts.” I told him in a bored tone.

“I can prove it.” He said with excitement and mischief blazing in his eyes.

I was about to reply, but he had disappeared, vanished into thin air. I looked around the room but he was nowhere.

I heard a loud bang behind me, and turned around to see that the window had slammed shut, leaving a small indent in the window sill. As I was inspecting the window, I heard soft thuds behind me. I quickly whirled around to see what was happening.

Several books were strewn across the floor, while more were being thrown out of the book case by an invisible force. The last book to fall out was open unlike the others. I picked it up and it was open to the title page which read ‘Ghost’.

The floor started to violently shake underneath me. An earthquake, of course there would be an earthquake now out of all times. The wind picked up and started howling around me. “This isn’t possible.” I muttered to myself.

I was terrified, and the storm was only getting worse inside the little attic. I ran to the desk I saw in the corner slipped and hid under it. Please don’t let me get hurt, I don’t want to die.

It had to be Paxton doing this, it couldn’t be anything else, it was impossible. “Paxton.” I cried out. When he didn’t return I screamed out his name. I looked up, and there he was in the middle of the storm smirking at me. Then it all just stopped, the wind, the earthquake everything.

He ran over to me and enveloped me in a hug that sent butterflies to my stomach, when he saw the tears streaming down my face. “I told you so.” He said sullenly, as I shook, and cried in his arms. Then he did something I did not expect. “I am so sorry Talia.” He whispered in my ear sadly.
