She woke up with a jerk and looked blindly around with a sense of uneasiness.
As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she realized that she was on the way to Borough, Her Aunt and Uncle's place, the Duke and Duchess of Borough.
The carriage had stopped for a rest at night and the journey to Borough would resume tomorrow at Dawn.
Quietly, she walked to the carriage door and knocked twice.
She heard a flurry of movements coming from the outside of the carriage and the door opened.
Standing in front of her was a rather disheveled looking royal knight, Sir Timothy, her best friend.
Though most royal ladies were not permitted to mix with the lower class, especially men, her father had allowed him to be her personal guardian ever since he saved her from drowning a few years back, ever since then they have been inseparable.
"What do you want milady?" Timothy said, trying to prevent himself from yawning aloud.
"Why so formal?"Mikayla sat down on the grass next to him, "Your my best friend."
"You aren't supposed to think like that Kay, you are to be a debutante soon, your not supposed to socialize with, my class" Timothy replied quietly.
"You know I never cared for that," Mikayla said, frowning at her best friend.
"Society would shun you, something I would never forgive myself for, aren't you supposed to be asleep? We're reaching tomorrow you know," Timothy reluctantly opened the carriage door and hoisted Mikayla in.
"I'm scared what if I don't fit in?"Mikayla said looking at Timothy, he could see the worry clouding her eyes and he's demeanor softened.
"Mikayla you are the most prettiest and nicest girl I have ever met, of course you would fit in," Timothy said clearly, "Good night milady"
"Night Timothy,"Mikayla said before the door closed as she walked back to her bed.
Sir Timothy closed the carriage door and instead of heading back to his tent,he took a seat on the grass and stared at the night stars.
He smiled faintly, remembering how he taught mikayla how to ride a horse, her falling down and laughing a most unladylike laugh.
No, he thought, he's mood dampening slightly, that was all over already, these memories are better forgotten, she was way above him.
I would protect you for as long as I live Mikayla, he vowed silently, I love you
