Annabeth could hear everyone falling. Thud. Thud.
The red team was erupting in cheers and whoops. The defenders were giving in. The other team had literally assaulted them from the front. Using brute force. And the thing that still rankled on Annabeth, was the fact that their illogical strategy actually worked. She winded through the trees, unseen. Her footsteps were light and calculated as she stalked towards the lake. She heard chatter. The red team had grown careless in their victory. She had her back against a particularly wide tree as she listened to the banter of of the winning team. "Chiron should make the teams more even. This is too easy.." She heard someone say. She wrinkled her nose. She would not lose. She picked up a rock and threw it at a bush near her. The morons flinched and crept carefully over the bush, completely leaving their post. The idiots were now examining the bush as Annabeth ran stealthily through the dirt road they'd been guarding. They remained oblivious to her whereabouts as she threw another rock a little bit farther down. They followed, bemused. She had to stifle a laugh as she darted by.
The  small path opened up soon after she entered. There was a little stream and a cave. Inside the cave, there was the flag. Annabeth gasped. They were so confident that they actually left it there? No guard? She shivered. There was no way. Not even they were that stupid. So many questions started to fill up her mind. She panicked. She grabbed the flag, and before she could take another step, five guards jumped out of the shadow of the cave and swarmed her. How could she have been so stupid? She screamed as she felt something sharp cut her leg. She was getting dizzy.
Then she heard commotion. Yelling. It was Percy. She smiled as the world grew dark. She heard more bodies fall and she felt warm fingers lift her up. Then everything went numb.
