Goodbye

Robert and I were first inside the house. The rest followed in seconds later. My heart was pounding but I wasn’t scared I was angry.

“You’ve got to go on the run.” Kenna exclaimed as she sat down on the sofa.

“Why?” Robert asked.

“He’s comes to kill Viola and there’s something else. But I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to say.” Kenna answered. I didn’t know why Amelia didn’t trust her, I did.

“Tell us, please Kenna.” I begged placing myself on the sofa next to her. I placed my hand in hers begging her to tell me. I noticed her staring at the ring on my finger.

“GET AWAY FROM HER CARMEN! SHE’S A DARK CASTER!” Amelia shouted to me through our connection. Kenna snapped her head up to face me with worried eyes.

“I won’t hurt you.” She said looking me dead in the eye. Still I listened to Amelia and returned to Robert’s side.

“She’s a dark Caster.” I whispered to him. His eyes narrowed on her like he was disgusted.

“I think you should go.” He said bluntly to Chatwin in disgust. Chatwin ducked his head in shame at Robert and led his partner from the room. Whilst they passed us Kenna grabbed my hand and suddenly there was a bright light and then Corwin and Gybon were in front of my sitting at the table I had been sitting at just a few minutes ago. They didn’t notice me, it was as if I was invisible to them.

“What are we going to do then dear friend?” Gybon asked the repulsive man next to him.

“The dark Casters Leaders’ are friends of mine. They’ve wanted to declare a war with the light for centuries but need help. The only way to do that is to get rid of the light’s leader. And that leader is Amelia,” Corwin stated.

“My Amelia?” Gybon asked astonished.

“Yes, she was a light Caster. She didn’t die Gybon. She was cursed to live in other light Caster’s souls. And she is currently in young Carmen’s. They were talking before dinner, I could feel it. The dark Caster’s want Carmen and so do we. If we team up we can track her down and defeat the light. It’s a win, win situation.”

“How will the dark separate them?” Gybon asked quietly.

“A ancient ritual or something, they’ll sort that out but we’ll be able to destroy Carmen and we’ll be superior again. Nobody could stop us.” Corwin beamed rubbing his hands together.

“Why do they want Amelia?” Gybon questioned sadly.

“If the leader of the light dies so does all of the light in the world. There will only be dark Casters then and that’s exactly what they want. Don’t let your love for her cloud your judgment she lied to you and she makes you weak my friend.” Corwin was trying his best to persuade Gybon into his plan I could tell from  the greed in his eyes. I was terrified about their plan. If all the light Casters left the balance of nature would be gone and the evil on the other side would be able to come into our world. Who knows what they’ll do to all the innocent mortals?

I couldn’t let them do this. They were only scared that something stronger than them was out there. Cowards.

“Do we have a plan?” Corwin smiled slyly, holding his hand out.

“Yes.” Gybon agreed shaking it firmly.

After that I was snapped back into reality and was in the living room again.

“You have seen their plan Carmen. I don’t want that to happen. You have to run!” Kenna shouted before the door was slammed in her face.

I didn’t know what to say, I was speechless. That was all true I knew it. I did have to run away. I couldn’t let them hurt any of my family and friends. Even if it meant I had to go off on my own, I would.

“I’ve got to go.” I said before running out of the house and next to door to mine. Once the door was unlocked I ran up the stairs and began to throw as many of my belongings into my orange Jansport backpack as I could. I got my toothbrush, hair brush, shampoo, and hair bobble, grabbed all of my money I had left and locked the house up. Put the key under the flower pot and started my Jeep. Robert came running out of his house with Viola close behind him but I was already pulling out of the drive and speeding down the road. Tears were falling from my eyes and I was trying my best to keep my eyes on the road.

“What are you doing Carmen?” Amelia’s voice asked.

“I have to protect them Amelia, and this is the only way I can.” I replied out loud.

“Drive as far as you can and then stop at a hotel for the night. We’ll talk then. I need to speak to some witches on this side. Stay safe.” She replied before leaving my mind.

I did what she told me to. I just drove. I had no idea where I was going but I kept driving. Just turning in whatever direction I thought was the best. It was now three in the morning and I knew I had to book into a hotel. The only place I found however was motel, which did not look too appealing. But it had to do. I pulled in and parked my car, booked a room for the night and took my backpack into the room with me. The man on the front desk looked a little scared when he saw me. It was probably because I had been crying all the way and I was still in the black dress I’d worn earlier that evening.

Inside the motel room was very old and cheap furniture. The contents of the room was a double bed with horrible orange patterned bedding, a ancient TV set, a bathroom, and what looked like dead road kill as a rug. It was horrible but I knew nobody would find me here.

Before I could start planning anything I had to take a shower and change into some jogging bottoms and a vest. The shower calmed me down and the clothes gave me some kind of comfort. I know had to decide what I was going to do next. Amelia hadn’t spoken to me yet and the only thing I could think of was my family. There was something playing on my mind what I had to do…

“Hello?” My mum answered after the third ring. I was surprised she was up at this time of the morning. Maybe I’d woke her up.

“Mum it’s me, Carmen. I just wanted to say I forgive you and I love you.” I was close to crying again but managed to control it. I was an emotional wreck at this point of my life.

“Sweetheart what are you on about?” She asked sounding very confused.

“You know I love you don’t you?” I asked.

“Of course I do. I love you too baby.” She laughed gently.

“Goodbye Mum.” I said meaning those words.

“What are you on about? Carmen what’s going on?” She asked as I hung up the phone.

I then whispered the enchantment that makes you forget a part of your life. Hoping it would work and my mum could move on with her life and not be hurt by mistakes. I knew I’d never forget her. Even though she was a terrible mother I loved her and wished her the best in life, even if she was with Martin.

I couldn’t speak to Robert just yet, it would hurt too much. So I turned off my phone and ignored the nineteen missed calls from him. I didn’t know how I was going to tell my Nan or Erin. It seemed impossible to leave the people I love to protect them but I had done it. I just had to accept the consequences of it now. My heart was literally aching though I knew I did the right thing.

“Carmen?”

“Amelia, tell me what to do. Please?” I begged.

“I’ve spoken to some witches on this side. They’re contacting their children all over the country, warning them of what’s to come. You must got to these places and tell them the plan. We haven’t got one yet but we will soon enough. Get some sleep now child.” Amelia said calmly.

Did sleep after that. I was more calm after I knew the witches on the other side were helping me. I just knew back home in Beethoven Robert was there worrying about me. I wanted to hold him in my arms one last time. Maybe then I’d be able to say goodbye.
