Riley:
"Riley?" A voice calls from behind me. I turn my head to see Asher jogging towards me. A smile on his face. "Hey," I greet him. "So, I wanted to ask you a question." He stated. I nod my head waiting intently. "I was wondering if you would like to go out sometime?" He asks. "Like a date?" I ask confused. He chuckles nervously. "Yes, a date...with me." He explained. I thought about it for a moment. I could. He's definitely cute. What would be the problem? Besides, Greyson is with Julie. He moved on. So should I. "Okay, yeah." I agree. "Yeah?" He asks. I nod in confirmation. "How does tonight sound? Say around 6ish. I have a really cool place I want take you." He states. "Sounds great." I say. He smiles at me. "See you then." He replied then walked away from me. I turn heading towards the school entrance. I needed to get home to get ready. I silently prayed that my mother wasn't there. I climb into my car and back out of my parking spot. When I arrive at my house the only car that was in the drive way was my dads. I frown getting out of the car. I sling my bag onto my shoulder as I walk up to the door. When I step in I could vaguely hear my fathers voice coming from the kitchen. I set my bag down and took off my shoes. As I approached the kitchen I realized he was on the phone with someone. Except he didn't sound happy. When I walked into the kitchen he turn quickly to face me. "I've got to go. I'll see you next week." He hung up. A deep frown was resting on his face. "Who was that?" I ask. He scuffs setting the phone on the counter. He turns his back towards me and starts to rummage the cabinets. "She's extending her vacation a week. She'll be back next Sunday." He explained. I felt a sick feeling start to settle into my stomach. My dad turned to look at me. "So, what are you thinking for dinner, kiddo?" He asks forcing a smile. "Uh, actually..I have a date...but I don't have to go if-"
"No, no. It's okay. You are more than welcome to go." He cuts me off. I felt unsure. I didn't want to leave my dad behind when my mom was doing god knows what. For a moment I consider telling him. "Well, since you've got plans..I might invite the guys over." He suddenly smiled happily. I couldn't help but smile back at him. He grabs his phone from off the counter walking past me to leave. I turn running upstairs to get around for my date. I had no idea what I was going to wear. After rummaging through my closet for about an hour I gave up and took a shower. Once my body and hair was washed I made sure to shave before getting out. I dried off heading back into my room to attempt round two in finding something to wear. Finally, I decided on a black dress that had white sleeves and shoulders across the top. I matched it with a pair of black wedges and messily pulled my hair into a sideways fishtail braid. I applied a small amount of make up before making my way downstairs. When I get to the base the doorbell rings. "I'll get it." I call. "It may be Chinese." My dad called from the living room. I open the door surprised to find Greyson standing there. His eyes meet mine before quickly scanning over my body. A small smile appears on his face. "You look..beautiful." He said. "Going somewhere fancy?" He asks. Before I get the chance to speak my dads voice cuts me off. "Is it Chinese?" My dad asks appearing beside me. "No, but you must be Riley's date. I'm her dad." My dad extends his hand. "Greyson," He introduces himself. "Though, I'm not your daughters date, sir. I'm a friend from school." He corrects him. Greyson's eyes meet mine. I force myself to look away. My dad smiles. "Well, it's nice to meet you." My dad pats my back then heads into the living room once more. I could feel Greyson looking at him. "You have a date?" He asks. His voice has an edge to it. "Yes, I do." I look at him. He frowns at me but doesn't say anything. "With who?" He asks. "Asher." I reply. For some reason a strange look appears on his face. He seems angry but he doesn't say anything. "I wasn't aware that you two were a thing."
"We aren't. He asked me on a date and I agreed. Why is that a big deal?" I ask. "It's not." He snapped. "Well, it sure seems like it to me." I reply. He rolls his eyes. "Whatever. Do whatever you want, Riley."
"I will. Not that I need your permission or anything. Why are you even here?" I ask crossing my arms. He narrows his eyes at me. "It's not important now. I should have known it was a game to you anyways." He mumbled. "What's that supposed to mean?" I ask. He waves me off. "It means I'm done wasting my time with you." He turns walking away. "Seriously," I call after him. He gets into his car and drives away. I groan in distaste slamming the door closed. My dad reappears in the entrance way. "So, that was awkward.." He breathes out. I sigh and shake my head. "It's Greyson. He'll come back around. He always does." I remark. My dad gives me a sympathetic smile. The door bell rings once more. When I pull it open I expected to find Asher but it was the delivery man. I step aside letting my dad pay for the door. When he left my dad went back into the living room. I checked my phone to see if Asher had texted me. I sat down on the small bench waiting for him. A few minutes turned into an hour. After an hour I started to feel like crap. He stood me up and I fought with Greyson for nothing. My dad reappeared in the hallway. "Is he coming? I don't really want my friends over if your going to be sad." He joked lightly. "Dad," I plead. My eyes start to water. He sighs kneeling down beside me. "Forget him, sweetheart. He'd have to be an ass to stand you up. Especially when you look so beautiful." He paused. "I'm sure that's why your little friend was upset because he knows how wonderful you are." He said. I shake my head. I felt like an idiot. "Come on..come eat Chinese and we can watch a girly movie." He said pulling me to my feet. I sigh but agree. I kick off my shoes and undo my hair walking behind him to the living room. We sit down on the couch waiting a girly movie he picked out on Netflix. Half way through the movie though he bumps his shoulder with mine. "You don't have to go to school tomorrow if you don't want, kiddo." My dad offered. I pondered on it for a moment. "Hmm, as much fun as that sounds, I need to go." I say. He nods his head. I could tell that something was bothering him. "Unless you need me to stay." I remark. He shakes his head. "No, well..we need to talk, sweetheart." He said. I felt my heart sink. I scan his eyes and I have a feeling that he knows. "What?" I ask. He sighs deeply sitting up. "You're mother and I are getting a divorce." He announced. I felt my stomach start to churn. This was my worst nightmare. "But..I don't-" I didn't know what to say so I stop myself short. "Honey, I know about your mother's affairs." He admitted. "Affairs? You mean she had more than one?" I ask. He gives me a sympathetic look. "Yes, she carried on a relationship with another man when we lived in San Fransisco. She thought that's why you were acting out so she broke it off with him. But when you continued she started a relationship with a different man." He explained. "You knew?" I ask surprised. "I had a few ideas. When I confronted her about it she told me she broke it off but I knew it wasn't true. When we moved here I hoped it would be a fresh start but it seems to be that she doesn't want that." He paused. His eyes search mine. "So, where is the wallet, Riley?" He asked. I shrug my shoulders. "Riley," He pleaded. I shake my head. "It's gone. His money..it's gone. I spent it. He canceled the cards yesterday morning." I say. "You spent his money?" My dad asked. I nod my head. "I know that I shouldn't have but I was angry. Just like you should be dad. She shouldn't be allowed to get away with this." I plead. He nods. "You're going to have to return the wallet." He said. I nod my head. A bad feeling was settling in my stomach. "Dad?" I whisper. He looks at me. "If..when you guys..you know..I want to live with you."
"Sweetheart," He paused. "No, seriously dad. Mom and I don't get along as much anymore. We'd constantly be fighting. Besides, I'd rather live with you." I say. He considers it for a moment. "We'll talk about this later, okay?" He says. I wanted to talk about it now but I agreed.
