"Hello? Cart are you listening?" The soft voice sounded muffled. I stared at the ground thinking. Then I felt a light brush and a wet feeling on my neck, that woke me up out of my daze. "Ew! What the fuck was that?" I said as I looked up. I saw my best friend Samantha standing there.

I've always envied her long brown wavy hair and green eyes. She looked at me with puppy dog eyes and then burst out laughing. Then I suddenly came to the realization that she must've licked me. "That's disgusting. You know you can't just go through life licking people who aren't listening," I said with a smirk, obvious sarcasm in my voice. I looked up saw her chuckle. She looked down and punched my arm playfully. "You actually taste really good!" She exclaimed and then tried to tackle me to the ground.

We were sitting on our usual spot in the courtyard at lunch. Sam originally picked this spot, when we were freshman, stating that her favorite tree was a cherry blossom.

We started wrestling and finally after our limbs were tangled and we were tired we rolled on our backs and looked at the clouds. "What ya thinking about?" She said as she looked at me. I didn't answer.

"Well anyway... I heard there's a new kid at South," I sat up and searched through my backpack for my lunch, as I kept listening, nodding every few seconds. "Yeah," she went on "His name is Bo or something, He's in my math class" I paused, thinking of the old bully I used to have named Bo. A slight breeze blew through the cherry blossom. "Is he cute?" I said as I took out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a bottle of coke, I handed Sam the other half of the sandwich.

She shrugged at the question and said, "Not to me, but other people are like obsessing over him." I took a bite of my sandwich. "What does he look like?" Sam held up a finger and swallowed "He has shaggy red hair, He's pretty tall and lanky, but he doesn't talk much." I took a sip of my coke and handed it to Sam. "So how was your weekend?" I added and
shoved the brown paper bag into my backpack.

Sam sipped the Coke and gave me a shrug. "I caught up on the new episodes of 'That Girl'. What about you?" She said and looked at me "Oh!," I exclaimed "I haven't seen the new episodes yet! So don't tell me!" She looked at me and said "You better hurry up and watch them cause I've got so much to tell you about it!" 'That Girl' is a mutual favorite tv show between us. She threw her head back and laughed. "Well what did you do this weekend?" She said smiling. "I mostly just caught up on homework and slept,"

After I finished my sentence we both sat there and watched the clouds move. We sat there in silence for a little bit.

"We're still gonna be friends when we're older right?" I said looking at her. "I hope so, but at the same time I want to move away and start a new life. If ya know what I mean," I knew exactly what she meant. At times I wanted to to the same thing, but I couldn't leave my mom and brothers. "Yeah, I get what you're saying. Sometimes it's all too much. And you just want to leave it all behind,"  I said as I looked around the courtyard. "I kind of want to reinvent myself," she exclaimed "There's just so much to do in life and I don't want to be stuck being the same person the whole time,"

The bell rang and we headed inside to collect our stuff from our lockers. We have the same period next, biology.
