This is my first story, but rewritten. I started it before, but then saw a lot of things I wanted to change, so I'm rewriting it! Comment are apprecieated, but not required! Thanks!

Everyone was talking about it. The news was so big that there wasn't a single person in town who hadn't talked a second less than twenty minutes about it. The kid was coming, today.
People were whispering all over town. What would her name be? Who would she stay with? How old would she be? Would the new addition even be a girl? Nobody knew, since the leaders had been very vague about the youngster. Today though, the whispering was out of control. The child was coming today!
Of course, it wasn't like I wasn't excited about it. I mean, I might get be getting a new friend! In fact, I was probably one of the people talking the most, except for today. Today, I knew that if I talked about this new arrival, then I would have to start thinking about the subject, and if I started thinking about the subject, then I would surely explode from anticipation! If I exploded, then I'd get yelled at for making a mess and not getting any work done. Not to mention I'd never get to know who it was! I wonder what this kid would look like...
"Virginia! I know you're wondering about the new arrival, and it's alright to do so, as long as you keep working while you're wondering!" Ethel reprimanded me with a twinkle in her eye
"Sorry Ethel." I replied honestly, then got back to weeding. It was almost dinner time, where were they? Shouldn't they be back by now?
As if reading my mind, I heard a carriage clatter into the stable. I jumped up and yelled "They're here! Ethel, they're here!" and in a quieter voice, "Ethel, can I go see? Please?" Oh my gosh, they're here! They're finally here! Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh! I'm going to faint or something! I can't believe they're finally here!!
Sighing, she said, "Go ahead and go. I can tell you're not going to forgive me if I don't let you go, then you'll never get any work done. I'll let you go on one condition: you have to report back to me when you're done, alright?"
"Yes Ethel, thank you so much! I love you!" I said over my shoulder as I took off running toward the stable, leaving her chuckling behind me. I can't believe she let me go! Well, yes I can, it is Ethel after all. What would this kid look like? No Virginia, don't explode just yet, you're so close to finding out who it is! Oh, I wouldn't explode in this short a time would I? I could, but ugh, I just can't stop thinking about it! I just hope that one of my friends will tell my remains what this kid looks like, and all the information I really wanted to know about this new kid. And hope that they clean me up before someone important sees me and I get in trouble for making a mess and not cleaning it up. Oh please let it be a girl, and a girl around my age at that! Oh please, please, please, please, dear god let it be girl who I can be friends with! Let me get there first too, because then I could be introduced to her first and she'd be more likely to remember me! Then maybe I could ask the adults if I could show her around the village and be the first to introduce her to everybody! Oh wouldn't that be grand! I'm surprised that I haven't gotten in trouble for running just yet. Darn these legs for not being able to go any fast-
"Virginia!" I skidded to a stop right in front of an extremely displeased Clarance. Now I'm not so happy with whoever was reading my mind before, because oh boy am I in trouble now. Of course it's Clarance who sees me, just my luck.
"Yes M'am?" Please don't make me go back, please don't make me go back! I chanted in my head.
"Why, exactly, were you running?"
"Well, I saw a carriage pull up, and realized that they must be here. So I asked Ethel if I could go see who it was, and said I could. I'm sorry Clarance, but I really wanted to see who it was. I'm so sorry for running. Can I still go? Please?"
"Did Ethel say you could run? I highly doubt it. Just because there aren't any adults around, or it's a special occasion, you still aren't allowed to run, and I'm not about to let you get off for running, especially when you know better. As your punishment, I am going to walk you back to Ethel's garden, and you will stay there with her until the dinner bell, and you shall clean up in the kitchen for the rest of the week. Is that clear?"
"Yes M'am." I really hate those mind readers now, because this is just unfair.
"Good, now let's go and see what Ethel has to say about you're running."
This just isn't fair, all I did was run! No big deal, but then of course Clarance has to see me. Why me? And especially, why today? This just isn't fair!
"Ethel, I caught this young child running to the stables. I have already charged her with cleaning up in the kitchen for the rest of the week, and forbidding her to go anywhere from this garden until the dinner bell rings. Do you have anything to add to her punishment?"
"Hmmm, well I think she has been punished enough. I never gave her permission to run to the stables, but I could tell she was dying to go, so I think taking that from her was the worst punishment you could have given her. I'll put her to work straight away. Thank you for letting me know Clarance. Now get started on your weeding again Virginia."
"You're welcome Ethel. I'm glad I could help. I think she deserves worse though, but I'll let you put her to work now. I have some to do myself that this little child was preventing me from doing. Good-bye Ethel."
"Good-bye Clarance."
As soon as she was sure Clarance was out of sight, she asked Ethel, "Do I have to continue my weeding?"
"No, you can stop now. Of all the people you have to get caught by, you had to choose Clarance."
"Hey, it'd not like I wanted to get caught, I didn't know she was there till she was right in front of me and I by then I was busted already!"
Ethel laughed, "That old grouch needs to have some compassion. If I went against her word in punishing you though, I'd be in a lot of trouble myself, sorry about that. I'll bet she's off to the carriage house herself."
"Wouldn't surprise me." She huffed
"Now that she's gone, what do you say we start cleaning up for-" she was interrupted by the loud DING DONG of the dinner bell.
"Well I was about to suggest we start cleaning up to go to dinner early, but I guess we wouldn't be early anymore." Ethel laughed
"In that case, we'd better start cleaning up or we'll be late!" she said, laughing along with her.
They cleaned up their trowels and other tools, and headed off to dinner, still laughing.

Thank you all so much for reading! Yes, I know it's short, but I'll try to make the next one longer!
However, before I start the next one,I just wanted to know before I started working on the next chapter, if you all wanted me to write in different Point Of Views or not. Let me know, and I'll start working on the next chapter!
Thanks for being so patient with me on the story too, it means a lot!
