Daf’s POV

I woke up in the morning with something poking in my lower back. I groggily turn around and see Luke there. I started laughing so hard. Someone had morning wood! He woke up and looked at me confused, still rubbing his eyes. I pointed to his bulge down below and his cheeks got so red. He quickly rushed off to the bathroom but I called him back. He warily sat on the bed, “Well that’s embarrassing.” I laughed even harder and he glared at me. I climbed on his lap and rubbed against it a little and his eyes got huge. I said, “I think it’s kinda sexy that I turn you on in the mornings.” I kissed him and I heard a little moan in the back of his throat. Then I jumped off and grabbed his hand. “Come on! Let me make you breakfast!” He smiled and said, “Uh yea. I’ll see you in there. I need to go handle this.” I laughed then ran away. There wasn’t much to cook so I grabbed the bread and toaster and made us some toast. He came back and looked relieved. I whispered in his ear, “If you needed help with that. I would’ve helped.” He smiled. Lust was clear in his eyes as he bit my neck and said, “I’ll remember that next time.”

We ate and then talked a little. I asked him some more about to football just to make him happy. His eyes glowed when he talked about a new play or whatever they do. Then his smile changed mischievously. I looked at him with squinted eyes. I knew that look. “What?” He chuckled and said, “Well maybe you can wear my jersey. The first game is next Friday. Usually girlfriends wear the jerseys and since we’re almost there, I would like you to wear mine.” I smiled and screamed inside. He really was a romantic guy. I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this side yet! He looked at me still waiting for an answer. I threw my arms around his neck and yelled, “Of course……Boyfriend.”

He looked at me happily. “Really?”

“Well yea. I mean I thought about it and we have been friends for so long and last nights date was great so why not.”

He put his arms around my waist and kissed me passionately. We decided we better head home. It was Sunday and Luke needed to pack for his family vacation this last week before school started which meant I would be stuck with my grandmother all week. Wonderful.

We packed up and left. On the drive home we listened to music and Luke laughed as I sang every song. He would grab my hand at random moments and kiss it. The sparks would linger where his lips had been.

Sooner than I’d like we go to my house. It looked the same on the outside by the life it had inside had gone with my mom. I kissed Luke goodbye and told him to have fun on his trip. I was about to get off the car when he lightly grabbed my wrist and pulled me in for another kiss. It got a little intense and we both pulled away to catch our breath. Man was he good looking. His chocolate brown eyes seemed to have so much meaning. I wanted to stare forever at them. He smiled and said, “You have beautiful eyes Daf.” I blushed. “So do “So do you baby.” “I like the sound of that.” I laughed and waved goodbye. I heard him yell, “I’ll text you!” I nodded then headed for the door.

When I got inside I saw a few boxes that still hadn’t been unpacked. I heard a noise in the kitchen and Clarice had a knife in her hand. I looked at her confused and when she saw it was me she said, “Oh it’s only you. How are you Daphne?” She returned the knife to the block and I said, “Fine.” I grabbed a bottled water from the fridge before leaving and running upstairs to my room.

When I got there, I threw my bag on the floor and collapsed on my bed. I guess I must’ve been tired because I woke up and it was already night time. I glanced at the clock. It was 11:23. Gosh I knocked out. I walked out and tripped over a tray of food. I glanced and it was lasagna and bread. It was already cold so I went downstairs to heat it up. Clarice was drinking tea. She looked up at me and my wrinkled clothes then back to the paper she was reading. “How was your weekend Daphne?” My food was still in the microwave with :39 seconds left so I had to answer. “Um it was good. Luke’s great. We’re exclusive now.” That got her attention. “So he’s your boyfriend?” I nodded my head and the microwave beeped. I grabbed the plate and headed upstairs. Talk about saved by the bell.

The rest of the week went on the same. I would see Clarice and she would try and make small talk. With the shortest answers I could get out then I would leave. Luke would text me every day to say good morning and sweet dreams. He called me once and told me how awesome it was hiking in Colorado. He sounded like he was having a great time. I was enjoying my last summer days in the pool and at the movies. I didn’t really like being at my house. There were just way too many memories.

I was watching TV on my last Saturday morning before school started and Clarice came in and sat down on the next couch over. She sat there for about 5 minutes and pretended to be interested in my Season One episodes of One Tree Hill. She then looked at me and asked, “Do you need some money to go buy some school clothes?” I hadn’t really thought about it. I guess I did need some new jeans and a couple of new blouses. So I said something I would probably regret later. “Yea that would be nice. Do you want to come with me?” She looked at me with such pleasure. “Yes Daphne. I’ll go get my purse.” I turned off the TV and ran to get some flip flops before heading downstairs. She was waiting by the door. We left in her car and headed to the mall. There I shopped at Aeropostale, Forever 21, Hollister, and Abercrombie.

Clarice wasn’t all that bad. She had pretty good taste. Everything she picked out for me to try on looked great. She treated me to ice cream too. It was a good day. I told her thank you a million times. We had spent a large chunk of change. She said she didn’t mind. We arrived back home with so many bags. After she helped me get them up to my room, I hugged her and said thank you once more. It was the first physical contact we had and it felt nice. She had the same body build as my mom so it felt familiar.

I took a shower and changed into my pj’s. I then heard a honk outside. I looked out my window and saw Luke’s car in the driveway. I ran downstairs to meet him. He was on the sidewalk when I opened the door with a huge smile on his face. I ran to him and threw my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. “I missed you.” He said holding me tightly. He put me down and I kissed him really hard. I traced my tongue along his bottom lip and he moaned a little. His tongue traced my top lip and he went in my mouth exploring every inch.

I heard someone clear their throat and I looked up. Clarice was standing on the porch looking down at us. Luke said, “Hey. Sorry we never formally met. I’m Luke Munoz.” She smiled at him at took his hand to shake it. “You can just call me Clarice.” He said, “Sorry I didn’t mean to come over so late. I just got back from my vacation and I wanted to say a proper goodnight to Daf.” She looked at me and smiled then walked back inside while saying, “Don’t stay out too late Daphne.” He looked at me with lust in his eyes then said, “Where were we?” He picked me up and we made out again for a good 5 minutes before finally saying good night. He told me we were going swimming for our last day of summer and that he would pick me up at 3. He had football practice in the morning.

I walked inside with a big grin on. Clarice looked up at me from the couch and said, “Well he looks like a keeper.” I nodded, “Yup. We’ve been best friends since we were 4. Mom and Maria Munoz had met at the grocery store and then realized we lived a couple of blocks away. They always arranged play dates and Luke and I have just always gotten along.”

“So when did boyfriend replace best friend?” she asked.

“Last Sunday when we realized our feelings had grown stronger than just friends. In a way the time apart really helped us.”

“Time apart?”

“Well we kinda got in a fight two months ago and we didn’t talk. We’ve never gone that long.”

She just nodded her head. I sighed, “Well I’m gonna head to bed. Night Clarice.” “Good night Daphne.”
