Chapter 3

As soon as school ended, I gathered all of my school bags and tennis gear before heading to the club. The long and tiring school day had drained all of my energy so now I was extremely exhausted. My stomach rumbled and I instantly regretted skipping lunch. Unfortunately, I didn't pack any food with me this morning either.  A few minutes into the walk my shoulders began to ache from carrying the heavy bags. As much as I wanted to stop, I couldn't. The weather wasn't helping me either. There were no clouds in site and my exposed skin was burning. I mentally thanked my dad for reminding me to wear sunscreen.

One good thing about school today was that Ryder didn’t talk me after our last conversation at our lockers He probably took the hint that I wanted to be alone. Although, there was something about him that annoyed the crap out of me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Was it the way he was always smirking? Or perhaps it was his mesmerising blue eyes.

After the thirty minute walk, I finally arrived at the club. As I walked towards the entrance, I could see the glorious blue hard courts which were my favourite surface to play on.  This was my heaven. I know it sounded weird but tennis calmed me downunless I was playing an intense match.

Carelessly, I dropped my bags on the ground and lay down. I opened my eyes and stared at the clear blue sky, inhaling the exhilarating smell of freshly cut grass. I was such a tennis freak but I didn't care. It made me happy.

Suddenly, my view of the sky was blocked. I quickly stood up and glared angrily at the person who was standing in front of me.

No way. I couldn’t believe who it was. My day was definitely getting worse.

“What do you want?” I asked as politely as possible even though I was mentally throwing daggers at him.

“Am I not allowed to stand here?”

The kind act ended and I began glaring at him. “This is a private property unless you're a member or have a pass. Since you're definitely not a member and I don't see you wearing a pass, I suggest that you leave."

“What makes you think that I'm not a member?” Ryder asked curiously.

"Bullshit you're a member. Are you stalking me or something?"

“Seriously, Steffi? This again? No, I'm not stalking you."

“Then what are you doing here, Ryder?” I questioned.

Ryder smirked, “Why else? I'm here to play tennis, duh.”

“No you're not. Are you sure you're not stalking me?"

“You caught me, I’m secretly in love with you and I have nothing better to do than stalk you,” he answered sarcastically.

I stuck my tongue at him and was on the verge of punching him until my dad interrupted me. “Hey Kiddo!” Dad smiled at me and gave me a hug.

“Hi Dad,” I replied, not forgetting that Ryder was standing there, listening to our conversation.

“I see that you’ve met Micah,” Dad said cheekily.

“You mean Ryder?” I'd almost forgot that Ryder's first name was Micah. He didn't look like a "Micah".

"Dad, this guy is trespassing. Should I call security?

Dad gave me a weird look and said, "Why on Earth would you think Micah is trespassing? I invited him to become a member here." Dad grinned profusely while I stared at him in shock. "Micah, if you were wondering who this lovely young lady is, she is my daughter, Steffi."
