A city over looked the ocean, it was so small it couldn't be seen by the naked eye, but it was big enough, for the excitement that is contained within. A city merely obsessed with football. Its the love of the game that this city relied on. Anywhere you go, anyone you see, is representing one of four teams, ocean view lancers, always went back and fourth with the river side bulldogs, those were the two main teams. The others were small but once every couple years they would win it all and travel to California for the nationals. Those teams were named Top hill bears, and the valley vipers. Those four teams played in a league of 24 teams, the other twenty were located a couple dozen miles away. The only team we had to worry about was the cliff side ducks, they were a growing franchise that has been killing the league since two years ago but all i have to worry about is the three teams over here, that is until we win the local league.
I am Jay Savage, my friends just call me Savvy. Im the qb for the ocean view lancers, midget division the oldest age group until high school, then we would have to move because there is no high schools in canton. Its the offseason right now the season starts in four days, the longest four days of my life.
I sat very bored at the local fast food restaurant with two others waiting for the car pool pickup. I was with my teammates. Ace and cub. Both linebackers, they were well built bigger in muscle than me but i was more lean and fit, like a quarterback should be.
We met here regularly and always got the same thing. It was a regular thing, weve been doing that since we played peewee together. 5 years ago. We waited inside till Solice and his parent pulled up to take us to school. Solice was a wide receiver. Pretty much my favorite. He was a 6"2 thin person, already got offers to state college, even though he isnt allowed to tell anyone he does. I have an offer to a university but i dont tell anyone, maybe i will this year.
We arrived at school. Earlier than usual. Everyone at school, in fact everywhere were always supporting there team. You could easily tell a lancer from a viper, lancer would wear red and white, and vipers would wear purple and black, bulldogs wear blue an white and bears wear, white and black. We walked down the crowded halls to our class we didnt have periods we just stayed in one class, for six hours.
I never liked school but i began to get used of the trash talking and fights between the teams, it was pretty amusing to watch four kids swing their fists at each other over a number of points on a board. On the other hand bears and vipers were friends with all of us, its just a weird tension between us and the bulldogs. Strange enough i sit right next to the bulldogs quarterback, aaron booth, we were okay with each other, thats of course until we get on the field.
Thats when i felt a tap on my shoulder, "Savvy!,wake up." ace said. In a stern but quite voice. I was asleep for 30 minutes, good thing i sit in the back. By this time we are in science class, learning something about atoms and covalent bonds, I never really listened in class but managed to get more A's than any other grades. I liked it that way. I heard whispers in the class very light ones, i look around and see something is getting around the class, and fast. A message thats when Cub said quietly "Dude, the bulldogs running back broke his leg at lunch while trying to get a ball that went over the fence." "Neck!" I said with a grin on my face. Necks are when someone say or does something stupid and you slap there neck. Very, very hard. As i said that i noticed what Cub was saying, we have a serious advantage over them now, their running back was the best in the league, and just that quick he is done for a long time.
