The hearing went nothing like I thought it would. I really thought I would be sitting the electric chair at this point, or dead. But actually I'm at home drinking pepsi's with Soda, Darry, and Two- bit. I tuned out most of the conversation when suddenly I heard Darry's low voice say,

"Well, Johnny and Dally.."

Immediately I thought "he's not dead. Johnny isn't dead"

I must have started to say that out loud,

"He's not dead. Johnny isn't dead. He's not dead..."

Soda was rubbing may back,

"Hey Pony. Ponyboy? I heard his soft, caring voice.

"Yeah?" I replied

"Pony, you really need to accept the fact that he's dead" he whispered concerned. "It has effected your school work, your sleep, everything Pony"

Two- Bit cautious said,

"Really, Pony. We've all lost him. We all miss him, but there is nothing we can do Pony. We just need to get along and cope together."

"They just don't get it" I thought. "They just don't get it" "Johnny and I had a connection that none of the others understood. It'd be just like losing soda or Darry. He was one of my brothers, not by blood, but blood doesn't define family"

Tears started falling slowly from my eyes.

"Sorry." I muffled quickly wiping the tears from my face. I excused myself from the table and went to my desk where I began to write.

Suddenly I flashed awake. It was all a dream. All of it. My blank paper lay slightly creased in front of me.

Then I heard the front door creak open as it usually did. And peaked out of the living room and saw Johnny's familiar slicked back hair and horrible posture from being beat by his father.

I ran knocking over the chair at the desk and hugged Johnny. Surprised, he looked at me and said,

"What... What is it pony?"

I replied, " it's a long story JohnnyCake. Just be careful. Don't sleep in the lot tonight, just come here.."

Raising an eyebrow he said, " wait, what pony?"

"Just follow what I said and everything will be fine Johnny."

"Oh, ok pony" he said with a confused tone.

Then I strode back to my desk and started writing. The first line I scratched across the paper, "When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home".
