Nathan’s POV
“Why?” I ask, unsure of what might be on the phone.
“You’ll see” Max tells me and he looks kind of nervous. He hands me the phone and I soon realise that there’s a video open on it. I press play and the black screen soon changes. It’s not long before I realise that the video is set in Lu’s house. That’s odd, but maybe it just looks like her house. After all, the decoration is quite popular. The camera moves around the room and stops on a struggling figure, whose tied to a chair. It’s Lu. I’m certain that my heart would have stopped beating the moment I laid eyes on her, but that had already been taken away from me just weeks before.
Deep down I knew that the vampires would go for Lu, I just hoped they wouldn’t. This is between me and them, not her. There’s no need for them to get her involved, but I guess they’re trying to hurt me. I swear, if they hurt her though, I will pierce a stake through their hearts myself. My heart might be black now, but the love I had for Lu when I was human is still there. I didn’t think it would be, but it is and now I have to save her from those animals.
I look back at the video, where Lu is tied up. The tape is ripped from her mouth, by an invisible figure, which I assume is the vampire who took her hostage. “Nathan!” she says, sobbing. At that moment it feels like a stake has just been pushed through my own heart. How could I let this happen? I should have kept an eye on her to make sure that they wouldn’t get her, but I didn’t. I just left her and hoped for the best and look where that’s gotten me. I have to find a way to save her. “Please! You have to help me” her makeup is running down her face. I’ve never seen her that scared before. Her face is pale and her lips are red from where the tape pulled at them. I would do anything to give her a hug right now and tell her everything is going to be ok, but I can’t and it isn’t. “They’re going to kill me” she stutters through the cries. At that moment her head jolts to the left, as if she’s been slapped. She starts to cry even more, before continuing. “Please Nathan. I don’t have long. They said that they’ll kill me unless” she begins. I look up from the phone and I look around at everyone else. They’re all watching me and I can see the terrified look on Jay’s face. He knows what’s coming and so do I. I just hoped it wouldn’t come to this. “You give them Jay” Lu finishes, before looking over to the right. “Please no! I’ve done what you asked. Don’t hurt me!” she begs and I can tell she’s starting to panic. “No!” she screams as the video finishes. The sounds of her cries are still ringing through my head moments later.
“What are you going to do?” Jay asks and I can tell he’s even more frightened now. He knows how much I love Lu and now I have to choose between her and my best friend. How can they ask me to do that?
“We have to find a way to save Lu, without giving them Jay” Tom says and I can feel the anger bubbling inside of me.
“Why can’t we give them Jay?” I say angrily, so I’m almost shouting.
“Because he’s our friend, why do you think?” Tom answers bitterly.
“So what?! We’re not going to be able to get Lu out without giving them Jay and quite frankly I would rather have her than him. All he ever does is bring us down anyway” I roar and I can see the shock on everyone’s faces.
“Nathan, don’t be like that. We can save them both if we just do it right” Max joins in.
“No we can’t! You know how strong they are and look at us! We have nothing. How are we supposed to save them both? It’s impossible”
“Nothing’s impossible” Max tells me.
“Look, I have an idea” Rheanna says, standing up.
“I don’t want your ideas! It’s your fault we’re in this mess in the first place!” I shout.
“How is it my fault that you took a dog into the lair?” she snaps back.
“Don’t call him that!” Nicky interrupts, as she rests her hand on Jay’s leg.
“I didn’t! He went in there on his own accord!” I shout back.
“It’s not my fault. I was following Nicky” Jay says.
“Stalking someone? Not really helping your case mate” Tom jokes.
“I wasn’t stalking her! I just wanted to talk to her. If anyone’s a stalker it’s you! I mean you seem to follow Beth ‘round enough”
“What? That doesn’t even make sense. Just because I talk to a girl doesn’t make me a stalker. It’s completely innocent” Tom says.
“I’ve seen the way you look at her and there’s nothing innocent about it” Jay says and by this time Beth and Nicky are looking pretty uncomfortable.
“How have we even got onto this subject? This isn’t about stalking people. This is about Lu” Max says.
“Exactly” Rheanna agrees. “Now do you want to hear my idea or what?”
“Fine” I say, trying not to look at her. No matter what she says, all of this is her fault and there’s no getting around it. If she hadn’t spiked my drink and bit me, I would still be living a human life with the girl of my dreams, but now, I’m standing here stone cold, trying to think of a way to stop Lu from getting killed.
“Alright, so you know Vlad’s brother, Vesuvius?” she asks, but no one seems to know what she’s talking about. “Well anyway, we kind of had a thing and that’s when he bit me, which means, we have a way in”
“How?” Beth asks.
“Because it means he knows me. So I can go and see him, acting like I’m ready to get back with him and then he can tell me what their plans are. So like I’ll be able to tell you what’s going on from inside, do you get it?” Rheanna asks.
“Yeah, but how will you do that without getting caught? I’ve been in their castle and it’s hard enough to get through the door, let alone into the parlour” Nicky tells us.
“That’s the thing, I know Vesuvius, so He’ll let in” she tells us and I have to admit, it’s a pretty good idea, but I’m not sure how well it’ll work. “What do you think?” she asks.
“I suppose we can try” I say, without looking at her.
“Ok, so I’ll do that, but first we need to find a better hideout. I mean they obviously know about this one now” she says and I have no choice but to agree.
