Chapter Four~

"Alright Odetta, have you got-"

"-My phone, keys, clothes, underwear, hair products, shower stuff?"

Susan gave a meek smile and pecked me on the cheek. "Call me when you want to come home?"

I faked a smile back and whispered goodbye as I got out of the car with my sports bag hauled on to my back. Susan gave me a wave before her Mini took off, getting smaller as she drove to the end of the road to have me gone. But I could say the same: I was happy to finally get some space away from her.

I look towards me, my Fathers home. Susan got a calll earlier about the guy who was supposed to pick me up and drive me here wasn't going to make it as it was his day off. But it wasn't a big deal. Father was home, and he was waiting for me.

Dad's home was like a villa. Sort of. Not as huge but just around the same size as any house on Clame Street. It was known locally as a rich street, a home for the wealthy. No place for hooligans, stumps of old cigarettes, or litter.

As I walk up the steps to the polished oak door surrounded with planted lavenders, I smeared my old worn trainers against the 'Welcome' carpet that stood before me before rattling the door handle that was carved as a spoon.

The breeze settled and a few cars drove by till the door was opened. I looked up and saw the face of my Father, which I didn't instantly recognised because it's been months since I last saw him, he was quite unrecognisable by his stubble face, cropped hair that used to be wavy and layered, and dark rims under his eyes. I blinked for a few seconds before saying "Dad?".

He opened the door wider, revealing more of himself, he half smiled, like he didn't know what to say.

"Welcome home, Dett," He said lowly, a cough added to his words.

I jumped into his arms and embraced him in a hug, a familiar feeling rushed through my skin. He tightened his arms around me, his actions were like words. He missed me, he was happy to see me again, and I felt the same way too.

When we somehow tore the hug he stepped aside and led me in, taking the bag off my hand and started blustering on about how the house wasn't prepared and organised- which was silly to say because the only thing that wasn't sorted were the few dirty dishes abandoned in the sink.

"I'll call Caiden" Bothered Dad, making his way to the house phone which stood horizontally on to the oak built shelf.

"Dad, stop" I laughed. "Let's just settle down".

He looked me over his shoulder and faintly sighed, ruffling his short hair. "I'm sorry, it's just- I wanted everything to be in the right place when you arrived".

I tilted my head a bit, and said "It is, Dad".

When we hugged for a few moments again, Dad needed it more than me, I heard him whisper "I'm just so happy you're 'ere," Which made me grin.
