Gracie is a fourth year student. She is a silent girl and do not have more friends in the campus. She always absent and come to school late. When she is in school, her face looks haggard and sleepy.
One day, while Ms. Isla was presenting her lesson, Gracie was slepping. The teacher was very angry. " Gracie!!! You're sleeping. Get out of my class! " The girl lifted her head and looked around the room. " Sorry maam?... " She said delicately. But the teacher screamed. " You! Go out! " Gracie got up and went out of the classroom. She was still drowsy so, she slept inside the canteen. The next day with Ms. Isla again in English lesson, Gracie looked
unconcious and sleepy. " Gracie! I do not want to see your face like that. If you are not interested with my class, you better drop my subject! " The teacher screamed loudly. Gracie scared with the teacher, so, she stood up, took her bag and attempted to go out, but Ms. Isla pulled her right shoulder and shouted angrily., "Jerky! Did I tell you to go out?! I warn you Gracie! " The girl went back to her desk. The tears flowed slowly into her cheeks and stared Ms. Isla like she wanted to say something, but the teacher hit the blackboard by her palm. " Now, you listen before you'll get punish! " Gracie bowed her head. Actually, Ms. Isla hated Gracie so much. She wanted her to drop her subject just to get her out of her sight.
After a week, Gracie did not go to school for about three days. Ms. Isla asked her classmates what happened to her, but no one told because they know nothing about her. Until one day, Ms. Isla decided to visit Gracie's house to talk to her parents. When she asked her mother,
" Gracie was not staying here for a long time. She came if she asks for money, new clothes, foods, things like that... " Gracie's mother said." So, where can we find Gracie? " The teacher asked. " I do not know... " The mother answered. Ms. Isla was shocked of what she heard. She did not know what to do that moment, her body was trembled and her tears dropped. She was irritated to Gracie's mother. The next day, Gracie went back to school with her haggard face. She sat away from her classmates. *** After the class, Ms. Isla came near with her. "Gracie?..." The teacher attempted to talk to her, but she walked out with the flowing tears in her cheeks. Ms. Isla sighed....she felt pity to the girl. She cried. Started that day, Ms. Isla and her classmates didn't see her again. She stopped going to school. The teacher went to her mother's house again, but her parents did'nt have any reaction about the matter.
After seven months, Ms. Isla saw a young woman carrying her baby boy in the street. "The young woman looks familiar to me. " She whispered in herself. When she came closer, the woman who was begging for food to eat was Gracie. Ms. Isla put a scarf on her head and covered her face. She gave her foods and 500 pesos, and coins left on her pocket. Then, she walked fast and sobbed.
After many days Ms. Isla went to buy something to the mall, after her time, she went to the side walk ro find Gracie, to the market....but she wansn't around. She came home sad.
Two months later~~~~
Gracie??! Gracie??! " Ms. Isla shouted. She saw Gracie and her baby boy sorrounded by many people in the city. They were unconcious and dying because of hunger. Ms. Isla took them and brought to the hospital. When Gracie was survived, she was shocked as she saw her teacher sitting in her side.
" Maam??! " Gracie called her, then looked around. "Sorry Gracie?.. " Ms. Isla said delicately and smiled.
--They hug each other--
"Where haveGracie then accepted Ms. Isla's offer. She and her baby boy stayed in her teacher's house. She began to change, she became responsible in everything, and the good relationship was built between her and Ms. Isla.
When the boy was already two years old, Ms. Isla sent Gracie
back to school.
Moral lesson: Let us see and treat our STUDENTS as OURSELVES....
