Chapter Forty-Seven: Other Arrangements (John Cena's Point of View)

Looking up at the ceiling, John Cena sighed as he realized it was nearly eleven o'clock in the morning. Today was Saturday, and it was also the day that Nicole was supposed to have been in West Newbury, training with Brittany. But just as he had warned his sister during their late-night phone call only ten hours before, there had been a great possibility that Nicole wouldn't be able to show up because of the pre-Fastlane events. Well, at the crack of dawn, Mark Carano had called and had given them the bad news. Nikki would now have to have her loyalties lie elsewhere. Brittany had yet to be informed. Or to wake up, really.

He had made at least have a dozen phone calls, yet Brittany must be insisting that she sleep for as long as possible. Once John realized that she was not going to answer, he started to make another round of phone calls, searching high and low for someone that would be willing to train with his sister. His luck was diminished. Natalya was in Ontario and wouldn't be flying back to the U.S. until late tomorrow afternoon, Trinity was in Florida tending to some family issues, Roman Reigns had his hands tied just as well as Nicole did, Seth did not want to take calls at the time, Cesaro was off at a live event in the neighboring town and wouldn't get time off until well past midnight, Randy had his own problems, so he was definitely out of the question. And as for Brie, Alicia, Wade, Bray, Konnor and Viktor, they were all laden with appearances and photoshoots for tomorrow's pay-per-view. This only frustrated John even further.

Nicole, as much as she did not want to entertain the idea, suggested to John that maybe it would be best to tell Brittany that they couldn't find anybody. But John nor Nicole wanted to do that. After their falling out and reconciliation, they both agreed that Brittany could not have any days off from training whatsoever. While Seth did not want to fight Brittany, they knew that either she trained to the best of her ability or she would be portrayed as a fool and an even worse wrestler than Eva Marie when Wrestlemania rolled around. Now, the sixteen-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion was at a dead end.

Watching as Nicole emerged from the bathroom, he smiled at the indescribable way her curvaceous figure looked in a simple pair of blue jeans and a Fearless t-shirt. "You look gorgeous."

She smirked as she applied the finishing touches to her makeup. "Oh, please. I look disgusting."

"Why do you think that way? If I thought that you were disgusting, I would have kicked you to the curb a long time ago," he replied as he gazed thoughtfully at her.

"I just don't feel the same anymore. I'm getting old. I even found a gray hair while I was in the shower."

"Listen to me," he begged as he spun Nicole around and forced her to look straight into his eyes,"; you are the most gorgeous woman in the world. You are still the same woman that I met all those years ago, and quite frankly, I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Don't put yourself down because you found a gray hair. You're beautiful, Nicole. Please believe me."

Nicole pouted a bit, a tear glistening as it rolled slowly down her cheek. "Why do you always have to be so kind?"

John smirked as he kissed her lips lightly. "It's my job to make my lady feel like the beautiful girl that she is."

She returned the favor by kissing him. "Thank you so much."

Ever since Nicole and Brittany had buried the hatchet and became friends after a three-year feud, John had noticed a change in Nicole's attitude. She had been a little more cheerful, always walking with a spring in her step. She seemed to have a more positive outlook on things. Not only that, but she seemed less bitter towards everyone, all except for Stephanie. Aside from that, Nicole had matured a little bit and John ws nothing but immensely proud of her. It was all a step in the right direction. Now if he could learn to trust her again, everything would be on track, including the wedding, which was still on for January of next year.

Realizing that he had to leave as well, John rolled out of the bed and proceeded to put on his shoes. Still wondering how Brittany would react to the news, he dropped his shoelace in amazement. He didn't know why he did not think of it before. It was brilliant, yet ill-planned. Crazy enough, yes. But John realized that it was the only option that he had left.

"What's wrong, my love?" Nicole asked as they were trapped in the slow-moving traffic.

"I may have found a partner for Brittany to work with, but I don't know if she'll exactly agree to it," he replied.

Nicole pondered this for several seconds. She crinkled her eyes whenever she concentrated hard enough. Not to mention that she bit her lip. It was a long pause, but when she must've finally put the pieces of the puzzle together, Nicole's face lit up like a Christmas tree.

"You're not actually thinking about calling him, are you?"

John sighed. "He's in Boston. I saw the live event schedule earlier this week. Flies in tomorrow. He can go over there and train her. God knows that it's time."

"But," she began to argue,"what if-"

He cut her off. "It's time, Nicole. Past due."

Nicole slumped back into her seat, sharing the same feeling with John.

As they pulled up the arena, Nicole went ahead and went inside, while John stayed behind. Swallowing a huge lump that had formed in his throat, he hoped that his choice would answer.

The phone rang three times.

It was a moment before he heard anything.

"Hello?" A raspy, groggy voice answered from the other end.

"Look, I know you're in Boston. I'm not asking you, but I'm telling you to go to my sister's house and train with her for a while. Don't say no, man. If you want it as much as we all do, then grab the opportunity before it's too late."
