Puff the Magic Penguin

The little stuffed penguin stared at the T.V. screen as the images played on his plastic blue eyes. Unable to make a sound, he watched silently and enjoyed his time alone with the beloved T.V. set without the insane Prudence.

If he could, Puff would shudder at the very mention of her name. That girl has lost her marbles. Sadly, poor, defenseless Puff was tortured day and night by her crazy tactics. Whether it be taking him shopping with her at the famous mall --embarrassing him beyond belief--, dragging him to school and placing him in his very own chair with a stupid worksheet in front of him, making him listen to that awful band called the Organic Bananas and dance with her, or hitting her annoying little brother with him. But worst of all, oh, worst of all, she would take Puff and two other stuffed toys and juggle them! Prudence belonged in a mental hospital! She would make the mental hospital want to go to a mental hospital! Her poor parents.

However, there was one thing that they shared in common. Though only one, it was enough to keep Puff going strong each day. They both loved watching The Penguins of Madagascar. Thankfully, Prudence was always asleep within five minutes, weary of her own craziness. Of course, Puff was always happy to sit on her bed and watch the humorous show with Prudence's mouth finally shut.

Though grateful that he could hear, see, think, and even feel a little, Puff wished for more. He longed to move, to speak, and taste. Oh, how he wanted to taste a mango! He had always had an unexplainable craving for them. Though he had never tasted one, or smelled one, or seen one, he knew he had to eat a mango.

Suddenly, the T.V. set shut off, as it did every night after an hour. That meant it was time to go to sleep. Or, in Puff's case, since he couldn't sleep, to relax and drift away from reality. But right before he drifted off, he thought to himself, "One day, I shall eat a mango. Somehow."

POOF!!!

Reality rushed back to Puff as he stared back at the now alive T.V. screen. Nothing was on, but it was bright white and nearly blinded Puff. He listened for Prudence to show signs of consciousness, but she didn't even flinch. That wasn't bad considering Puff wasn't in the mood to listen to her scream like a maniac.

Then something that would have made Puff scream happened.

Out of his television screen poured a strange, white fog. It became thicker and thicker until Puff couldn't see anything.

Puff was panicking. Who-or what- was this strange creature that was walking out??! He could barely make out the figure of something fat with wings.

Slowly, the fog began to fade off, leaving behind what was what he assumed to be a fairy. She was smaller, only a little bigger than Puff, and was just as round as him. She wore far too much lipstick and an oversized pair of hot pink sunglasses hid her eyes. Her hair looked like something from the eighties with it all puffed up into one, blonde perm. The almost blinding blue dress she wore was sparkly and ill-fitted. She looked like a overdone Barbie doll. She wore a pair of thin, silver high heels.

Puff was scared out of his mind. Who was this thing- this fairy and what was she doing here!? He glanced over at Prudence. She was still out cold. The fairy walked over to Puff. She pulled a piece of paper and read from it;

"Puff the Penguin. You are the Chosen One. I have heard your thoughts and I am here to grant you your wish, but first you must go on a mission for me. You see, I need you to go off into the strange lands of Arcadia; an idealized, unattainable, pastoral place, that can only be dreamt up by an insane person."

"In this place, you shall get me a giant goose egg with twenty speckles; sixteen should be colored orange, and the other four absolutely must be purple. Then, you must get a small jellybean in the shape of a tooth. By that time, you have ten minutes to reach an old bear that wears a red tie, black fedora, and shades. You are to ask him if the cucumbers are singing yet."
