Sleep. One of the safest but most dangerous parts of my day. Safe because I'm alone and it's nice to let my mind wander. Dangerous because you never know what is beyond your bedroom door. It could be a great day or a bad one. For all you know, you could wake up to a punch in the face or a gentle kiss on the cheek. My life has become unpredictable.
I here the click of the door knob and the small squeak of the door and I'm instantly awake, ready for whatever or whoever comes through the door. As the door opens all the way, I hear a soft voice saying, "Don't worry! It's just me." I realize it's my mom and sigh with relief. I give her a hug and she hands me a plate with eggs, toast and bacon on it and my sack lunch. "You'd better start getting ready or you'll be late for school! Now I'm going to go make Robert's breakfast." When I looked in my mom's eyes, I saw a flick of fear when she said his name. The fear then disappeared just as fast as it had appeared.
Robert is my stepdad. He's a famous business man who works all over the globe. He gives us whatever we need but I've never really see him as a father. He's not really into being a loving father. He's more into giving you want you need so you can stay out of his way and if you get in his way, he'll do whatever is necessary to remove you. My real dad died a few years back. I was eight. He was driving home from work when a drunk, twenty six year old man crashed straight into my dad's car. Neither of them survived the crash. This is a big reason why I don't like Robert. He drinks all the time and comes home drunk almost every single day. I can't wait until I'm eighteen so I can go my mom and move away from the jerk.
I eat my breakfast and finish getting ready. I open my window and climb onto the roof. Before I close my window, I make sure that my room is clean so that there is one less thing that my mom has to worry about. As I walk over to the edge, I find the big pipe that is screwed into the side of the house. When my feet touch the ground I check my watch. "Crap!" I say in aggravation as I run toward my old pick up truck. I jump in my truck and start the engine. As I start to back out of the driveway, my pocket starts vibrating. I reach into my pocket and pull out my phone. "Hello?" I say as I answer it. "Dude hurry up! You're going to be late for first period!" "I'll be fine John! I'm like 15 minutes away and Ms. Belnap gives us like 5 extra minutes before she marks us tardy! Tell her that I'll be there soon." In the background, I here Ms. Belnap say to John, "Is that Andrew?" "Yeah he's on his way." Answers John. Ms. Belnap takes John's phone and says, "Mr. Baller, you need to get to class!" "I'm on my way, Ms. Belnap! I'm literally just 3 minutes away." "Does that include you buying me a large diet Coke from 7-Eleven?" she asks. "Yes ma'am!" I answer. "Thanks you! See you in five minutes." Ms. Belnap says as she hangs up the phone. As I drive into 7-Eleven, I fill up my car and run inside to grab Ms. Belnap's big gulp. When I get to school, I run to chemistry. Inside, I drop my backpack in the seat next to John and hand Ms. Belnap her drink. "Thank you muchly!"
The rest of the day was pretty normal. After chemistry, I had math and P.E. During lunch, there was a big crowd in the commons. As John and I were sitting down, about to eat, I hear a ear ripping scream. When I turn around to look, I see a blood go everywhere.
