"Today's the day you go and make some new friends, sweetheart!" Blake squeaked, mimicking Mom.
"Oh shut the hell up, Blake," I replied in a snotty tone.
I honestly didn't want to go out and make new friends, but I figured it was the only way Mom would get off my case.
"Desiree, Blake," Mom's voice chanted up the stairs.
"Come get some lunch before you two head off!"
After lunch, Blake took me out into the neighbourhood to meet his friends. He'd told me that they were all between sixteen and seventeen, soon-to-be-juniors and seniors, so I'd fit in fine.
Immediately, I noticed the girls; there were two of them. In my two seconds of judging them before actually meeting them, I decided that they were both soon-to-be seniors.
One of the girls skipped over to me, grabbed my hand and pulled me towards her one blonde friend.
"My name's Raine!" she squealed.
She had brownish-dirty blonde hair. She looked like a doll. Sure, she was very pretty, but something about how happy she was with her big brown eyes staring at me made me think of her like a doll.
"I'm Desiree, but people call me Desi," I replied quietly. As soon as I knew it, she jumped over and hugged me.
"We're gonna be such good friends!" she exclaimed. I wasn't too fond of this girl at the moment.
Raine pointed to the blonde girl behind her.
"This is Kat." Kat smiled shyly to me. She definately wasn't as bubbly and spontaneous as Raine was, that's for sure.
"My actual name is Katrina, but Raine calls me Kat."
She definately didn't like introductions. She sounded as awkward as I did.
Raine locked arms with Kat then held out her hand to me, grinning from ear to ear.
"Come on!" she squeaked, still smiling.
Didn't her jaw hurt by now? I could barely smile for three seconds without cramping up. Maybe it's because I frown most of the time.
I reached out for her hand, a little unsure if I'd made the right choice or not. Raine locked my arm with hers just as she had with Kat, and jumped up and down a little, giggling. This chick was crazy.
"You guys wanna go some place for a Coke or something?" she beamed.
"Why not," I smiled. Kat nodded in agreement.
"So what are we waiting for then? Let's go, go, go!" Raine giggled.
"Where are you going?" Blake called from behind us as we headed in the opposite direction.
All three of us turned around, still with arms locked to Raine's. She was stronger than she seemed for such a small-built girl.
"McDonald's or something!" Raine shouted back.
"Wanna join us?" she was looking directly at Jacob. He smiled at her. In fact, all the guys were smiling at Raine. I mean, who wouldn't? She was stunning.
"Nah," Jacob replied as he walked towards Raine.
"We already got plans. We'll meet up later, ok?" He leaned down and kissed her.
She still had her arms locked with mine and Kat's, and we exchanged an awkward glance. Raine giggled as Jacob walked away.
"See you boys later!" she cheered, and we headed off in the opposite direction as them.
