Homecoming

"Jace..."

"Yeah?"

"When are you coming home?"

"Soon."

She pouted. "You always say that. But you're never back."

Jace chuckled. "Is it because you ask that every five seconds?” She was silent as he continued, "So, how are the babies?"

"They're kicking a lot. They must really hate me."

"Aren't they supposed to kick?"

"Well, yeah. But not as hard as they do now."

There was silence on the other end. "Jace?" She tugged on the telephone cord. "Are you there?!"

“Pffffffft.” He laughed hard.

"What the hell's so funny?!" She snapped. He continued his hysterics. "If you don't stop laughing I'll run away and never return! Do you hear me?! NEVER!"

"Oh, alright! But if you do run away, I'll take drastic measures. Don't forget who I am," His voice suddenly turned to ice, "and what I can do. You owe me a great deal, Ada."

Ada startled. "I... I was just joking," she stammered. "I didn't mean it."

"I know. I was merely reminding you," His voice was soft, and at the same time, unnerving. "Just. Don't. Forget." He emphasized each word. There was a shout in the background. "Well, looks like I had better get going! And as for when I'll come: Within two days. Goodbye." Click.

She hung up and collapsed onto the floor. Her heart beat out in an uneven rhythm. Jace was her husband whom she loved very much. He was also the boss of the Mafia, and not just of one country. The whole world. He controlled all the leaders in all the countries. So, because of that, he's very busy and is hardly ever home.

As for her, she was just a twenty year old woman who had a difficult childhood. Her real parents died when she was a newborn baby and she was adopted by cruel people. She was forced to work as a maid every since she could stand. Due to that, her school grades dropped drastically and developed chronic depression. Then, one day, when she was sixteen, her foster family threw her out and she had to live on the streets. That's where I met my lover. I was cold, soaked with rain, wounded, and filthy.

"Why are you here?" Jace asked, staring at Ada with his ocean blue eyes. His head was tipped to one side.

"Because I don't belong anywhere else," she replied.

"Everyone belongs somewhere."

"Well, I don't.” she snapped. “Now, if your here just to--"

"Why don't you come home with me?"

"What?" she stared at him as if he grew several heads at once.

"Come home with me and we'll find that one place you belong. How 'bout it?"

"B- But..." He didn't let her finish. He grabbed her and pulled her up. They were barely an inch apart. Her heart raced and her face heated up. She had never been this close to a guy before. It was kind of awkward.

"Can you walk?" He asked, holding me up.

"Erm..." She couldn't. Her legs were paralyzed for who knows how long.

"Alright." He picked me up into his arms, carrying her like a bride.

"What are you doing?!” she shrieked.
