"Mom, dad I'm home!" I shouted with a smile and dropped my bags on the floor. My parents had gotten older now, so they were much slower getting to the door.
"Riley, look at you!" My mom shouted and kissed my cheeks.
"It's been 6 years, ma."I said with a hint of sadness in my voice and pulled her into a hug.
"6 years turned you into a beautiful young lady." My dad said with a smile. We moved to the living room so I could tell stories about my schooling. I told tem about my 2 best friends, the grades I got; only the good ones, and my time outside of school just living in England. My parents always sent me letters and I always wrote back. It got pretty late and I didn't realize how much I talked do I headed up to bed. My room was exactly how I left it. I threw my long wavy brown hair in a bun and put on some pyjama shorts and a tank top. I slid into bed and curled up from being tired pretty much all 6 years. I shut my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.

12:47 read my clock as I slowly opened my eyes. I stretched out like a starfish and continued to lie. I looked at the nightstand beside my bed and opened the drawer. I poked around until a photograph caught my attention. I pulled it out and looked at it. I felt tears from in my eyes and a smile on my mouth. It was a picture of me and my old boyfriend Dinger from the dance we went to together. I remember the night quite well. I stared at the photograph for a good 5 minutes before a thought occurred to me. In all 6 years of not seeing him, why didn't he ever write? Did he find someone else? He couldn't have... he loved me right? We were 17 could it have been love? I pondered for a while until I decided on going to see him myself. I ran through my morning routine, making sure I was looking nice to see Dinger again. I walked down stairs and put on a pair of black boots. "Where are you going, sweetie?" My mom asked as she walked out of the living room with my father.
"I'm going to go visit Dinger." I smiled at his name. "I just wanna see how he is. Can I take your car?" My parents looked at each other with an expression I couldn't quite identify. My dad nodded and I walked out the door. Soon I was out of the driveway on on my way to his house. I passed by Coleman's house. It had a big FOR SALE sign out in the front yard. My expression dropped at the thoughts of what could have happened to him, but my spirits were lifted again as I pulled up to Dinger's driveway. I stepped out of my car and knocked on the front door.
"Who is it?" I heard his mom yell from inside.
"Hi Mrs. H, it's Riley." I called in. I heard fast footsteps to the door and it swung open; let's just say she didn't look too happy.
"I was your school?" She asked with sarcasm in her tone.
"Uh, it was fine... is Dinger here?"
"No. And even if he was I don't think he would want to talk to you. You broke his heart."
My eyes widened at her words. "I did nothing to him. He didn't even write to me when I was away." I said quietly.
"Yes he did. He was up all night sometimes thinking of what to write to get you back when you wouldn't reply."
"I never got any letters, I swear. I only ever got my parents."
"Well, you might want to ask them where his are, because he gave his to them to mail together."
"Is he home?"
"Well if you're parents had sent the letters you would know he's been lining in LA with Bobby for a few years now."
"Thank you Mrs. H, I'll figure this all out." I finished and got back in my car. I was stunned at what my parents did to me. I pulled in my driveway and walked into my house. There was a piece of paper taped to the small table by the door. Went to lunch. See you soon. -mom and dad. I took a deep breath and tried to process what I heard earlier. If the letters were never sent, they must still be here... I thought. I stepped in the kitchen and went through ever drawer in it. Along with the ones in the living room.
Next I walked into my garage and breathed in the muggy air that was filled in it. A new looking recycling bin caught my attention. I pulled it out from under a table and saw at least 20 envelopes in it. They were all a addressed to me at my school and had Dinger's name on the return address. I sat down beside the bin and fished out all the letters. Soon they were sorted by date. 3 from 1989, 5 from 1990, 5 from '91, 4 from '92, 2 from '93, and 1 from this year. I spent half an hour reading through the letters and I only got through 9 of them. My parents got home and called for me. "I'm in here." I yelled in a weak voice. They opened the door and looked at me with guilt in their eyes. I folded up letter 10 and looked at them. "Is there something you guys forgot to give me?"yay chapter one of book 2!
