ELIZABETH'S POV
"Hey Eliza!"
I whirled around. Katie was rushing towards me with a grin on her face.
"Hi Katie."
"OMG, guess what?! I got the lead role in the play!" Katie screams, jumping up and down.
This is my best friend, Katie Downs. She's very optimistic and is a true friend. We've been friends since first grade. She loves plays, and wants to be an actress. We have a school play, Cinderella, and Katie had tried out for the role of Cinderella. She's worked really hard, and I'm proud of her.
People stare at us while we squealed and jumped up and down.
"That's great news! So who's Prince Charming then?" I asked.
"It's Derek...." Katie says dreamily, staring off in the distance.
Katie's had a crush on Derek Jackson since we were in 7th grade. She had him as a partner in art class, and has liked him ever since.
"Ooh, and you get to kiss him too!" I teased. We stood in the lunch line to get our food.
"Shut up!" Katie blushed bright red. I laughed at her and she smacks me.
We get our lunch and sit down at our table.
Let me introduce you to my friends. Olivia Pikes is a cheerleader. She's nice and really sassy. Oliver Pikes is on the basketball team. He's Olivia's twin and pretty cute. Derek Jackson, Katie's crush. He's on the football team. And last but definitely not least, Andrew Mitchell. I kinda have a crush on him since.... third grade. He's on the swimming team.
I sat down next to Katie and Oliver. I took a bite out of my turkey sandwich.
"I'm playing Cinderella, guys!"Katie exclaims.
"Nice."
"OMG, that's so cool!"
"Good job."
We congratulate Katie and talked.
"Hey Ellie." Andrew said, smiling at me.
"Hey." My heart beats faster.
"How's your day been? Anything interesting?"
"No, not much."
"You want to hang out after school today?"
"Sure." I grinned. OMG, is he asking me on a date?! Well not exactly, but we are going to hang out alone!
"Awesome. We can get some Starbucks and go the the park."
I nod. Inside, I'm dancing around and squealing.
Katie must've heard, because she winked at me, making me blush.
We talked and ate our lunch for the rest of lunch.
Soon, the bell rang. We say our goodbyes and head off to our classes. I head to my locker, grabbing my books for English.
I entered class and sat in my seat, chatting with Sarah, a classmate. Soon, Mr. Brown enter the classroom and we all fell silent. Mr. Brown is one of the strictest teacher at school. He has eyes like a hawk. Once, he got Holly a detention for writing down the homework while he was talking.
"Okay class, open your books to page 246. Rose, read the first paragraph." He asked, no wait, demanded.
45 Minutes Later
"Turn in your essay tomorrow and don't forget to write notes for chapter 15. If you don't turn these in, I'll give you four detentions." Mr. Brown threatened. We all nod as the bell rang. We all scrambled out of our seats, wanting to get as far away from the evil teacher as possible.
I sighed. I had a study hall next, and then it's freedom. I make my way to the classroom. Signing in on the attendance sheet, I sat down in a seat and took out my homework. Halfway through, the intercom came on.
"Elizabeth Johnson, please get your things and report to the main office immediately. Thank you."
I raised an eyebrow. Why am I going to the main office? I'm not in trouble am I?
I pack up my stuff and headed to my locker. Getting the books needed for homework, I walked to the office.
I have good grades, I didn't do anything wrong, I'm courteous to the teachers, I'm nice to my classmates, so.... why am I needed in the office? And why do I need my things?
I soon approached the office. Hesitatingly, I knock on the door.
"Come in."
I open the door and stepped in. Principal Curtis was sitting at her desk, sipping on tea. And next to her desk was.... my brother? David was standing there, tapping his feet impatiently. When he saw me, he rushed over.
"What's going on, Dave?" I asked, still confused. He's suppose to be in his college classes, so why's he here instead?
"Dad fell down the stairs today." He said. What?!
"Since this is an emergency and you have a study hall now, you're excused." Principal Curtis said.
"Thanks." Dave grabbed my hand, pulling me out of the school. We got into Dave's brand new car and drove off to the hospital.
"How'd he fell?" I asked.
"He told me that he was going down the stairs from his office. He wanted to come home early so that we can go out bowling or something. He was walking, but then someone pushed him hard down the stairs."
I gasped. Who would do such a thing?
"Did he see who it was?" Hopefully, they found out who did it.
Dave shakes his head. "No. There weren't any cameras around, so we don't know who the cultprit is."
He pulled into the parking lot of the hospital and we rushed out. We quickly found his room and the nurse let us in. Dad was in the bed, and Mom was sitting next to him, with tear-stained cheeks. I rushed over to Dad.
He looked horrible. His arm was in a cast, he had bruises and cuts on his face, and his foot was resting on a pillow.
"Dad!" I hugged him lightly, afraid that I'll hurt him. He patted my back. I pulled back, sniffing and trying to keep my tears back.
"I'm okay, kiddo."
I rolled my eyes. He would always try to reassure me that everything would be okay, even though sometimes, they weren't.
"Dad, look at yourself."
"Fine. But it's not that bad. I only have a few cuts, bruises, a sprained ankle, and a broken arm." He shrugged, like it was okay.
"Dad, is someone after you or something? It wasn't an accident, it was definitely on purpose." I asked, turning to serious mode.
Dad bit his lip, turning to look at Mom. Was I missing something here? It seemed like Dad was.... hiding something from us.
"Tell them." Mom said, sounding tired.
"Well, a week ago, I started receiving threats. They were on my desk in my office. They warned me that they were coming for me and... my family."
