I wake up at eleven the next morning. I'm famished. I haven't hate since the night before the accident. My mom's eyes are still closed. She's still breathing though.
I move my hand and find the walky talky. Channel six doctor Steves. Okay. I fumble with the dial till I fund chanel six. "Doctor Steves?" My voice is shaky but I don't care.
"Darcy?"
"Yes sir."
"Okay."
Not five minutes later he walks in." What ya need?"
"I'm starving."
"You got it." He's pulling a wheel chair to my bed side. He pulls and i.v out of my hand. I didn't know it was there. "Nice and slow." He puts his hand behind my back. I nod acknowledging his words. "Good." I'm at the edge of the bed. "Now hold yourself up." I listen. He walks over the wheelchair and pulls it closer to the bed, I slide down into it.
"My mom." I ask pointing twards her.
"Just us for breakfast today." I nod.
I want my mom back. Seeing all the tubes coming out of her makes me want to cry.
Doctor Steves makes the wheelchair do a wheelie in the hallway. I know mom would have yelled.
"Mabey she'll join us for lunch." He can tell I miss her.
"What's for breakfast?" I'm so hungry i probably won't care.
"Waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, orange juice, cranberry juice."
"Sounds good." We're getting closer. I can smell it.
"You can only have eggs and bacon though."
"That's fine "
Two duble doors loom in front me. I'm alone. My mom isn't here. I'm being pushed around by a stranger.
"Here we are." Doctor Steves opens the doors. It looks almost identical to the one at school. That room is why I'm here. That room is why my mom isn't next to me. That room is why I'm in this wheelchair.
Doctor Steves pushes me over to a sofa in front of a T.V. He tells me he's going to get me breakfast. He gone for about ten minutes.
May I state hospital breakfast. Not so good.
