Pocketwatch

My heart's a broken pocketwatch
There's no tick to my tock
My time is never the same as that
Of someone else's clock

The metal case is cold
The latch is rusted shut
Many a person has tried to open it
Boy, I sure am in a rut!

We've already called the Watchmaker
There's not much he could do
My heart is locked up so tight,
Someone must've used glue!

You can bash it
Toss it
Hell, stomp on it!
It won't work, though.
Your actions are amusing,
Like watching a television show.

Now, don't give me that look!
I can see it in your eyes!
You think that I haven't even tried!
That's not much of a surprise...

You're wrong, my friend!
I have definitely tried
But every time I made an effort
Well, another part of me would just die

When will this madness end?
Who knows!
I do hope this pocketwatch syndrome
Isn't something that comes and goes...

My heart's been broken for quite some time.
I'm beginning to lose hope.
And yet, there's a part of me that cries
Out to be fixed
My only question is... "How?"
