"Jamie...I'm sorry...I just don't feel that way for you..." Sam said, looking down at the blonde freshman girl. Jamie looked back at him with disappointment growing in her eyes.

The girl sighed. "I guess I should have expected that..."

"It's not that you aren't great and all.  I just...Jamie, I really can't feel that way for you." Sam admitted. He wasn't sure he was really ready to tell her this. (Sam wasn't sure he was ready to tell anyone this.) He was already thinking of back up excuses that he could give her.

Jamie looked at him strangely. "What do you mean?"

Sam decided on the safest, most truthful option. "I like someone else."

'Of course,' he thought to himself, 'that doesn't exactly answer why I can't...'

"Oh. I hope she's nice. Would it be okay if I asked who it is?" Jamie said.

Sam wanted to slam his head against the wall. Seriously?! He hadn't thought about the fact that she would ask who it was?

"Uh...well, you see, I...uhh..." he couldn't get himself to stop his stuttering. Every sound that came out of his mouth was short, choppy, and in no way sounded like the English language. Tell her the truth...or lie?

"It's...it's...Brandon..." Sam sighed.  He looked at the younger teen hopefully, really hoping this would work out okay. Jamie held a straight expression, no emotions showing on her face. It was silent for a long moment and Sam wasn't sure he could take it.

Finally, she spoke. "You're...gay?"

Sam hesitated before nodding his head. "Yeah..."

Jamie shook her head, looking away from the brunette teen.

"I can't believe this. I really cannot believe this. I like a gay guy. Seriously?" Jamie said to herself.  She turned away from Sam and began walking away saying, "Way to go, Jamie. Way to go."

"Jamie-" Sam started. The girl spun on him.

"No. Just no. Don't talk to me.  Really, just don't. Leave. Me. Alone." she said, before stalking off towards the cafeteria.

Sam wanted to hide in a dark corner of the stage with all the percussion stuff and never come out.
